Robert E. Lind. noted phychiatrist, as he sat in an automobile in downtown Washington with the attorney's wife last week. H. Mason Welch, defense attorney, said Miller would be able to be arraigned next Monday, perhaps sooner.

He explained that Miller had been given a sedative to assure him a good rest last night but that he was unable to go to court this morning as scheduled. Miller, who is at liberty under $15.000 bond, contends that he shot the 57 year old Dr. Lind in self- defense. The Weather 24 hours ending at 8 a. m.

March 3 B-25 Mitchell bombers equipped with powerful Army ordnance 75 millimeter aircraft cannon played a major part in softening up the Marshall Islands for the successful invasions of Kwajalein and Eniwetok atolls, Col. Max A. Elser, commanding officer of Raritan Arsenal, said today.

The Seventh Air Force's flying artillerymen, he said, incessantly attacked the Japanese positions with the devastating cannon, followed through with bombings and concluded their assaults with strafing by .50 calibjre machine guns. The 75mm. cannon can fire 15 to 20 15-pound projectiles in less a minute, with one man loading and the pilot firing by pressing a button, the Colonel explained. The complete shell, including projectile, case and propelling charge, weighs 26 pounds and is 26 inches long. The cannon is housed in the bombardier's access tunnel, along the left side of the fuselage under the pilot's compartment.

Col. Elser said pill-boxes, airfields and enemy shipping were pounded by the 75mm. shells during the Marshalls attacks. In one raid the cannon accounted for one 4.000-ton freighter sunk, one destroyer probably sunk, one 150- foot sloop and several smaller craft sunk, two Zeros damaged and numerous fires started in ground installations. COMMITTEE Hagerstown, March Preston Lane.

Democratic National committccman for Maryland, has been appointed a member of the Committee on Arrangements for the Democratic national convention opening in-Chicago-July 19. according to an announcement made today. "POLAND DAY" Annapolis. March 3 'March 5. was proclaimed "Poland I Day" in Maryland by Governor O'Conor today and he urged the citizens of the Free State to pray for the restoration of "liberty and peace to this brave country, that its people may have the opportunity to work out their future free from Rabies Quarantine Area Likely To Be Posted Posting of the rabies quarantine area in Middletown valley is expected to occur wiihin a short time, it was reported today, and at the same time it was learned that a dog suspected of the disease near Burkittsville was not infected.

Philip C. Harvey, bacteriologist at the State Health Department laboratory here, said he expected the area to be posted within a short tirrte since full reports have been made to the State Board of Agriculture. The area designated thus far extends for a radius of about three miles from Bolivar, including Middletown and about reaching Burkittsville. Dr. Frank C.

Ryan. Middletown veterinarian, said a report has recently been received that laboratory tests show a dog which was shot at Burkittsville did not have rabies. The colored owner of the dog reported that it was acting strangely and had it shot. Dr. Ryan said there has been no further outbreak of the disease, which has been practically confined thus far to the Bolivar area west of Middletown.

One dog, shown to have rabies, bit a number of other animals in that section, which resulted in the imposition of the quarantine, by which residents of the area must keep their dogs penned up tied for 24 hours a day. Dr. Ryan added that there has hardly been time as yet for an outbreak, in the event the disease spreads from the rabid dog. Any further cases, he feels, will develop within the next week or ten days. Mr.

Harvey also stated that no new cases have been reported to the laboratory here. Local Mentions Ladies' Sprint; Suits We happy to announce that our collection of Spring and Easter Suits is complete. Select yours now. A deposit will reserve it until wanted. HENRY'S 17-19 N.
