The city meeting oa Saturday was very large, and the opinion of the citizen? respect- iiip the location of a college for the education of colored youth was very decisively expressed, and almost without dissent. Our citizens are indisposed for various reasons, to bring in upon themselves a greater colored population than will be drawn here by the ordinary conveniences of a residence, "it is not desirable, but ruinous to the interests of the city, to constitute New Haven the head quarters of a scheme of emancipation, not addressed to the white masters but to the slaves. As members of civil society, as Christians, we are not permitted to encourage emancipation by impressing on the mind of the slave the conviction of his right to immediate unqualified emancipation, is the first step in instigating- insurrection. Even if the right be unquestionable, we are not permitted to bring- cruelty and death into the habitations of our southern brethren, by inciting the slave to enforce it The Boston "Courier" remarking upon the above says--We are not in the least surprised at the indisposition of the people to have this institution located amongst them. There are a variety of reasons which would make it an unpleasant addition to the public institutions of any city.

The southern states would soon be overrun with graduates preaching; late butcheries in Virginia be renewed under the guidance of fanatics, in every quarter of the southern states. People who really have the disposition to benefit the blacks, may, perhaps, do something through the Colonization Society; but we know of no other manner in -which they can interfere, without the iisk of injur'ng-both, blacks and whites.
