Country This is fin: each newscast by household There appear to be built-in margins fin: error Out of an estimated 116000 households in the Big Country 278 were kept for Arbitron 277 for Nielsen Going by the numbers KTAB was on the tube in more than twice as many homes as any other of the area stations at 6 pm and by even a greater margin at 10 But even with the huge leads figures were less than a year ago Abritron had KTAB with a rating of 29 and a share of 45 at 6 pm KRBC with 12 and 18 and KTXS with 6 and 9 At 10 Arbitron showed KTAB with a 31 rating and a 53 percent share KRBC 9 and 16 and KTXS 7 and 12 Compared to February 1987 6 pm Arbitron share was down three percentage points KRBC up by 4 and KTXS down by 7 At 10 KTAB was down 2 points KRBC up four and KTXS down four Nielsen figures show deviations Some are considerable But the 1-2-3 rankings are the same At 6 pm KTAB was given a 25 rating and 40 share KRBC 14 and 21 and KTXS 8 and 13 At 10 KTAB was 26 and 44 KRBC 11 and 19 and KTXS 9 and 15 Compared to February 1987 KTAB's 6 pm Nielsen share was down 2 points KRBC was down 1 and KTXS was up 3 At 10 pm KTAB was down 8 points in the biggest swing in any of the charts KRBC was up 3 and KTXS was up 2 Ken Knox general manager at KRBC said he was pleased with the basic trend If you lump both services together he said last two books show a slight increase for KRBC with KTAB pretty flat (about the same) and a slight decrease for He felt the ratings services were as reliable as could be expected a lot better than Knox said Clay Milstead general manager at KTXS agree He pointed to the 6 pm figures that showed his station down 7 points from 1987 if you read Arbitron and up by 3 if you subscribe to Nielson He went outside the news presentations for another example the Phil Donahue show carried by KTXS at 9 am weekdays thing that's puzzling to us is for women 25 to 40 Nielsen shows it to have a 61 share Arbitron has it at 21 That's a 40-point difference You sit here scratching your head and trying to understand the figures It makes it very Milstead said his station's continued ranking in third place was not a signal for wholesale staff changes always trying to improve the product not only the content but the presentation" he said what we'll really be working on is a better way to get people to sample our newscasts Old habits are hard to Bryan Mundy program operations manager at KTAB said his station was understandably pleased with the bottom line He showed little concern for the down trends from 1987 to 1988 He said KTAB doesn't get concerned very much with deviation between figures depends on their methods If both their numbers were the spine you'd figure thejp had a i 1 Births Born Monday at Hendrick Medical Center From Abilene: Boy to
