Much of the best musical talent in the city is now rehearsing one of the beet and grandest cantatas eer Un dertaken by smateurs, for presenta tion here on November 29rh and 30th. The cantata is "Joseph," by J. Aastor Broad. It is the beautiful and romantio story of the favorite son of tbe old Hebrew patriacn told in music, and interpreted with sunroued- ingt of scemo pasture lands, 'Eg tiau couit scenes, prison Scenes, palace scenes, etc also including a scene Of casting Joseph into he pit, by hia brethren, the sale io the Ishmaelites, etc. Nearly if net quite all the in cresting and thrilling fea tures of the' story so dear to peo pie of chiistendom from infancy and throughout life are presented: such as bestowing tbe coat 01 many colors, the jealousy of Joseph's brethren.

then on to the period when Joseph is a ruler in Egypt, bis making iiimself known to his brethren who went: to buy corn of him, with other equally interesting isatures. About sixty of tbe young ladies and gentlemen of the city are engaged in the rehearsals and among tHese the various characters are distributed with a view to the special ability; of each one to sustain his or her part. The choruses (over sixty voices) are simply grand, tbe music approaching if not equalling that of the highest class of oratorios, and are bting re hearsed with a determination io pre sent them with the best and most pleasing fleet I Tbe costumes will be typical 01 tne time and country in which the events of the- story occurred, and sre now hAi'ncr nmnared bv a noted Ntfw York r--r -t costumer for the special presetatipn. The rehearsals are being conducted under the supervision of Mrn. J.

Shipp, who has kindly interested self in he cantata, and is giving it a great deal of ber time. Tere are nine splendid and impressive scenes in the cantata, -all the events of the famous and immortal story, aod interpreting it ill a way that will deeply interest every cod young and old.
