Iowa Lakes Wants More Money For Landscaping, Equipment Kossuth County Advene* - 9 Monday, Jun« 28, 1971 ESTHERVILLE - Voters In Kossuth county and the four other Area m counties will be asked to approve a three-quarter mill capital improvement levy Sept. 13 as a result of action taken Tuesday night by the board of directors of Iowa Lakes Community College. , The levy has been in effect since 1967 and will expire in 1972. Renewal of the fund at the September area board elect- Ion was recommended by Supt. H. Edwin Cramer at this time, however, to assure the continuation of the levy without lapse. Provided for under Iowa law, the proceeds from the levy have been used to supply matching funds for federal funds for the construction of buildings on both the north and south campuses of the college. Currently under construction are both Phase I and phase II buildings on the north campus. An addition to the vocational-technical building on south campus is now on the draw- Ing boards and will make pos- sible consolidation of all south campus instructional activities. - WANT MORE MONEY Funding for the facilities now under construction does not provide sufficient financing for all of the equipment that will be needed for these buildings, or for landscaping and educational furnishings. The three-quarter mill levy will provide funds for these purposes and for expansion requirements. The new facilities on the Estherville campus will replace both the Rotunda building and the annex area rented from the Estherville Community School District. Likewise, the south campus addition replaces rented facilities. The new construction, however, does not provide for student growth or expansion through the addition of new educational programs, such as added laboratories on the Estherville campus. The Area m election will be held Monday, Sept. 13, in Emmet, Palo Alto, clay, Dickinson and Kossuth counties and In portions of eight other adjacent counties that are a part of Area in.
