Bulldogs Run Over Monday, June 28, 1971 West Bend 11-1 Algona's hitting and pitching power gave the Bulldogs their fifth win of the season over West Bend Wednesday night 11-1. Gene Hunt, Algona senior next fall, righthander, fanned 10 West Bend batters and gave up only three hits to earn a victory. The locals scored in the first when Dick Manske triped, Don Sindelar walked and Lance Mueller singled to bring in the two runs, Neil O'Brien started out with a walk in the third and Sindelar smashed a triple to score O'Brien. Sindelar then came in on Mueller's big double. In the fourth inning, Tim Lighter, freshman left fielder, singled and advanced on a fielder's choice. Sindelar then singled to score and Walker singled to bring in another run, The Bulldogs' four runs capped the game when Manske got to first on an error and O'Brien walked. Sindelar singled and Mueller made base on an error, Gene Hunt walked and Dan Smith lined a single to bring in the last run. The sectionals will be played at Bancroft, Ruthven and Bode in this area. Algona will play Burt Monday, July 12, at 6 p.m. The second game will be played at 8 p.m. with Swea city vs, Armstrong. Algona Garrigan faces Ledyard Tuesday evening at 6:00 and Titonka vs. Bancroft St. John in the 6:00 game. At Ruthven the second game will be played Monday at 8 p.m. with Ruthven playing Emmetsburg July 12. Graettinger will advance with a bye, Sentral of Fenton faces Gillett Grove, South Clay in the first game July 12 at Ruthven. Swim Team Has 2 Meets Here This Week EMMETSBURG - The Algona swimming team lost a close dual meet here Thursday, 311-258. It was the first competition of tne season for the 75-member Algona team. Fifty-seven members competed here, Mark Olson coaches the divers and Kevin Lynch coaches the swimmers on the team. There will be two home meets this week - Cherokee. Tuesday and Estherville Friday. The public is invited free of charge. Diving starts at 5 p.m., and swimming follows at about 6:30.
