Girls' Softball Tourney At Woden-Crystal Lake WODEN (Special) - The Hth annual Woden-Crystal Lake Girls Softball Tournament will start here and at Crystal Lake next week. Defending champion is Woden- Cryetal Lake, other top teams are Twin-Rivers, Goldfleld, Bel? mond, Sheffield and Terrill. Nancy Sorenson, Woden-Crystal Lake's junior pitcher, has won her first four games. She has pitched 27 Innings allowed 6 hits, walked only four, struck out 47 and allowed only one run. Her career record is 78 wins and 23 losses. Monday, June 14 7:00 - Sheffield-Chapin vs. Cal Community at Woden 7:00 - Rockwell-Swaledale vs. Burt at Crystal Lake. 8:30- Woden-Crystal Lake vs. Ventura at Crystal Lake. 8:30 - Ledyard vs. Corwith- Wesley at Woden. Tuesday, June 15 7:00 - Terrill vs. Ringsted at Crystal Lake. 7:00 - Twin Rivers vs. Boone Valley at Woden. 8:30 - Belmond vs. Titonka at Crystal Lake. 8:30 - Goldfield vs. Northwood- Kensett at Woden. The winners of the first round will advance to the second round which will be held Wednesday June 16th. The winner of the Ledyard - Corwith-Wesley game will play June 16 in Woden at 8:30. The winner of the Woden- Crystal Lake - Ventura game will play the winner of the Ledyard - Corwith-Wesley game. The winner^ of the Rockwell- Swaledale, Biirt, Terrill, Ringsted games will play at 7 : 00 in Woden. The winners of the Twin Rivers, Boone Valley, Sheffield Chapin, Cal Community games play in Crystal Lake at 7:00, June 16. The winners of the Belmond, Titonka, Goldfield, Northwood, Kensett games will play at 8:30 in Crystal Lake. The winners of the second round games will play Friday June 18 at 7:00 and 8:30. The finals will be played Saturday at Woden. Rivers Gun Club Trapshooting Wednesday Night BODE (Special) - The first annual Rivers Gun club trophy shoot (Memorial Day) was .held with 38 entries. Winning trophies were: Hi overall- Herman Murman, Palmer; 2nd hi overall- Roger Jensen, Bode; Hi handicap - Eldred Holden, Bode ; Hi 16 yd. - Wes Pulley, Palmer; Womens Hi - Bea Pontius, Fort Dodge; Junior 1st - David Christiansen, Bode; and Junior 2nd - Jeff Bell, Fort Dodge. A 10-week, 10-team league began Wednesday, June 9, with 50 shooters participating. They will be contesting for a $500 purse and trophies. Shooting is scheduled from 6;30 to 10:30 under lights. SENIOR LEAGUE - Missiles vs. Astronauts, pp.; Jets 14, Rockets 4; Jets 18, Astronauts G; Bombers 7, Missiles 6. BURT (Special) - Bancroft edged out Burt in a Thursday evening game 4-2 at Burt. Kollasch was given credit for the win and Jentz took the loss for Burt. Burt started things out in the first inning when Tom Lappe tripled. Sarchet singled on a Bancroft error. McFarland walked to get the bases loaded. Kollasch then walked the next two Bears to bring in both runs. Bancroft tied up the game in the fifth when a walk and an error brought in Steve Rahe and Dick Merron. Bancroft then broke the tie in the seventh when Behnkendorf doubled. Rahe walked and Greg Welp singled to bring in Behnkendorf and Rahe. S. The two-shot score for the hole, even if accomplished by one of the leading pro* fessional golfers of the country, would be considered something of a feat. He was playing with Duane Stock at the time. Instant Indians At Pork Days In Bancroft Friday Bancroft's business area was a popular place for children Friday during Pork Day. After studying the hogs that were penned in the street, the kids turned to "instant Indian" stand nearby. Bancroft businessmen bought the hogs from George Merron of Bancroft and gave them away Friday night to people who had registered during the day-long promotion.
