When told them I wasn't dead yet my daughter-in-lawlical HINTS piped up, "It won't be long now. (Staff Photo) Hutchison Outlines Program for THDA By KATE OLIVER With the coming changes in the world, the Texas Home Demonstration Association must have interest in programs bethe individual club, John Hutchison, Extension director, told the District VII meeting Tuesday. "You face new challenges and with the THDA reservoir of trained leaders you have a responsibility for leadership, Hutchison said. He outlined nine points for the women to consider as a program. "You need to develop a longtime program through the County Program Building Committee acting as a framework." As a second point, Hutchison called attention to the growing number of elderly people.

000 people in the United States turn 65 years old every day," he said. THE GOVERNOR'S Committee on Aging is working through the Extension Service on the problem. He just can't keep his hands off the young girls. I have seen him pull them on his lap and beg for hugs and kisses. The poor things don't know what to do or say. On two occasions I spoke to my husband (privately, of course) and he tore into me like wildcat. He insists that I am evil minded and jealous and that he is just being fatherly.

I asked him how he would like it if the fathers of these girls pawed his daughter. He said I was crazy and that I ought to see a doctor. If you think my husband is right please say so. If you think I am right I'd appreciate your support.N. M.

Dear N. You are right. If that 8-handed lothario thinks he's being fatherly, suggest that he talk to a physician who has some good psychiatric orientation. He may learn a thing or two. Confidential to Still In Love With Him: Keep quiet.

Governor's Committee on Mental Health is developing recommendations for legislation during the next Legislative session," Hutchison explained. "THEY HOPE to have a mental health center within driving distance of every citizen in Texas." HD club members can help by acquainting people with the services of the centers, by ridding them of the bugaboo of mental illness and by offering understanding, the director explained. The fourth area that HD Clubs need to concern themselves with is food and nutrition.

Hutchison cited the example of a six-year program being conducted in El Paso where five per cent of the women surveyed the first year did not know the four basic food groups. A year later in a random survey conducted among the same group after foods workshops, 70. per cent knew the basic food groups needed for a balanced diet. HE SUGGESTED GROUPS might help with the Headstart program and he mentioned the use of 4-H groups to deal effectively with school dropouts. "We have 17,000 adult leaders for 4-H groups in the state and we need more to reach boys and girls who can be helped by 4-H work," Hutchison noted.

He also believes that clubs should sponsor more money management workshops and make better use of trained resources for meaningful club programs. Hutchison was introduced by Loreta Allen, Taylor County HD agent at the Starlite Inn, before the luncheon. One hundred-seventy women registered for the one day session of business, luncheon and workshops. Mrs. Maynard Gaines of Coleman was introduced as the District VII candidate for state president.
