The lieutenant's mother inlaw, Mrs. Arnold McCraw of Mathis, disclosed these plans concerning Terhune's future: After a 30 day furlough he will report to Miramar Naval Air Station at San Diego, where he will complete his Navy hitch as a flight instructor.

Following his discharge in February, Terhune plans to farm in the Panhandle at Perryton, where his father owns land. Mrs. McCraw said Terhune's father is now at Perryton, preparing living quarters on the farm for Terhune and his wife and three children. McCraw said. Terhune appeared "tired and worn" after his tour in Viet Nam, his mother in law said. The first town over which Ter-1 hune flew the February raid, Don Hoi, was the location where he was shot down Oct. 14, then quickly rescued. "It was my second run." he recalled.

"I was strafing some barracks, I pulled off and a 'hit' up in the fuselage area." Guarded closely by four other Navy planes, Terhune headed back for his ship, the aircraft carrier Coral Sea, but had to bail out over the ocean at 8,000 feet. Terhune said two helicopters were in the area and he was rescued from the water in no more than 80 seconds. A Navy flier since 1962, the young officer criticized student demonstrations against the U.S. stand in Viet Nam. "It's kinda hard to' lay your life on the line, and see your best buddies, friends and roommates die when you know everyone is not behind you." Terhune was met at Chase Field by his wife and their three children, four month old Barry Arnold, Laura, 3, and Joe, 20 months.

The Navy has awarded Terhune two Air Medals and the Navy Commendation Medal for "heroism in aerial flight" as a fighter pilot in numerous combat missions over North Viet Nam. 14 Attend TML Meet Ten city employes and four members of the City Council were in San Antonio Monday attending the 53rd annual conference of the Texas Municipal League, according to Assistant City Manager Ed Wagoner.
