WICHITA BEACON: FRIDAY EVENING, DECEMBER 9, 1921 2 000 4 THE De a Everybody Will Want to Be Secretary of Board of Commerce After Reading This T'S a snap to be secretary of I the Wichita About all Board a man Com- has merce. to do, besides making a talk, to one or two conventions a day and attending two or three committee new enterprises and mollyifying meetings and locating one or ring some recalcitrant member, and talking re over plans for a new home for the organization and some better roads for the county, is to answer the letters that arrive every day. This letter writing is just as easy as the rest of the job, as may be seen from the list of letters received in the morning mail today. There was a request from state board of agriculture for a report on crop conditons; two leters from local individuals offering storage space for a comwhich has been looking for pany such space; an inquiry from Philadelphia as to the prospect for the building of houses and apartment buildings in 1022; a request from Williamsburg for road maps and other road formation; a request from Indeconcerning the Chamber of Commerec of the United States; a request from the Des Moines Chamber of Commerce for information concerning the airplane industry in Wichita; a letter from Clay Center asking if there is employment in Wichita for: a draftsman or A pipe fitter. A man at Minot, N.

wants to know if there 1s an opening HER RECOVERY WAS A SUPRISE TO MRS WELDON Was Hardly Able to Drag Herself Around, Is Now a Well and Happy Woman, is a grand medicine and I wouldn't think of being without it the price was ten times what it is," said Mrs. Hattie May Weldon, 623 South Eighth Kansas City, "I really had given up hope of ever being well again as nothing seemed to do me any good. For two years I had been in wretched health and would have to stay in bed for weeks at a time, and even when I was up was hardly able to drag myself around. I had no appetite, nothing agreed with me and I was nervous and restless all the time. certainly was a big surprise to when I found that Tanlac was just what I had been needing all along.

It suited my case exactly and I am a well and happy woman now." Tanlac is sold in Wichita by the Dockum Drug and leading druggists -Adv. CORNS Lift Off with Fingers Doesn't hurt a bit! Drop a little "Freezone" on an aching corn, instantly that corn stops hurting, then shortly you lift it right off with fingers. Your druggist sells a tiny bottle of "Freezone" for a few cents, sufficient to remove every hard corn, soft corn, or corn between the toes, and the calluses, without soreness or in 1 Wichita for a second-hand store or a grocery store; a letter from Wellington asking the use of the assembly room December 44 for some kind of a farmers' meeting; a letter from Roanoke, relative to the broomcorn situation; another from a Kansas City photo house wanting the secretary to collect a bill. From Newton came a letter asking when Jascha Heifetz, the violinist, is to play in Wichita; another came from Lincoln, asking about the price of gas and electric power and rentals on buildings; and a letter from an Oklahoma merchant offering to ship eggs by the case at 46 cents a dozen, After answering these few letters and doing some other things in addition to those first mentioned, all the secretary has to do is to sit with his feet on his desk and entertain his friends. It sure is an easy life.

Grit Printery to Print Industrial Wichita Directory Gifford Booth of the Grit Printery announced today that his concern has secured the contract for printing the first edition of the Industrial Wichita Directory as well as the advance and follow -up literature. Assurance is given that the directory will be attractively printed and will reflect credit on the craft in Wichita. Race J. Macklin, formerly of Chicago but now a resident of Wichita, is the publisher. Mr.

Macklin is an experienced publicity man and was retained by a comparatively small group of manufacturers in non-conflicting lines to plan and detail cooperative sales campaign. The industrial directory is the first big gun to be fired. The campaign as detailed includes the use of newspaper space not only here in Wichita but in every community in Wichita trade territory. Essentially the directory is always to be a sales medium and never a conglomerated mass of non-related information; nor is it to be built on the order of a compendium or encyclopedia, Mr. Macklin said.

While a few progressive business men have taken the initiative in arranging for a cooperative sales campaign it is open to all Wichita industries supplying the Southwest. In so far as is practical, conflicting lines will not appear in the same edition. One of each is the program. This policy, however, in nowise shuts out any concern nor will it cause any delay, for a number of editions all different can be put thru at the same time and each copy going to a different dealer, according to Mr. Macklin.

Until suitable office space can be had, Mr. Macklin will have his headquarters at 124 South Lawrence Avenue with the Grit Printery. William Martin Killed By Train at Amarillo, Tex. William Martin, age 28, butcher, 1607 North Mead, died Tuesday night from injuries received Saturday when he fell under a train, according to word received by his uncle, Louis Martin, with whom he made his home. A complete account of the accident has not yet been received.

Martin, who was employed by the Dold Packing Company here, left a week ago for Oklahoma City. His aunt and uncle had no knowledge that he had gone to Amarillo. Martin leaves two sisters, Miss Rosa Martin, Wichita, and Mrs. Anna Kenny, Long Beach, Calif, and three brothers, Floyd, Elmer and Carl Martin, Wichita. The body' will be brought to Wichita for burial.

Wichita Photographer Buys Kansas City Plant Homer Harden, commercial photographer of Wichita, who has one of the best plants west of Chicago, has been in Kansas City the past two weeks, having recently purchased the plant of the Williams Commercial Photographic Company there. He is making substantial additions to the plant, which, when it opens within the next ten days, will be the largest in that city, it is said. Ed Bowman Is Able to Visit Old Haunts Ed Bowman, detective, who was wounded twice in a pistol fight with Eddie Adams when Adams was slain November 22, has recovered sufficiently from his wounds, that he called at police headquarters yesterday. Bowman was shot twice in the abdomen, but because of an unusually strong constitution he is making a rapid recovery. The Mystery of The Red Flame (By GEORGE BARTON -HIMSELF) A plain exciting adventure which actually occurred to Mr.

Barton while he was in the United States customs service during the war. For diplomatic reasons this interesting and unusual experience could not be revealed until now.
