It confers a kind of value it never before possessed.

It makes the article conspicuous, places it on record, brings it before the public, and creates for it ft status in the community. Advertise so ordinary an object as to old barn door, for example That door has taken on ft ntw value. It is worth more than it waj before, because people know that it is iu the market. People know that it exists, that it is for sale, and that it is considered worth advertising. It has gained ft history, and becomes a matter of interest.

People wonder if they do not want ft barn door, and perhaps, after some contemplation, feel little decpondent because they do not want one. The neighbors might suspect them of having no barn or, worse yet, of not being able to buy a eoor to it. John Smith is elevated by seeing his name in print. It looks better than plain John X. Smith.

Why should not a barn-door aspire to fame in having its birth and its good qualities announced in the local organ, and its purchase digaified in a bill of Bale Fboji IlAKtisBCBa to Bostow. flie following railroad item appeared in yesterday's Harrisburg Patriot: "The chief engineer of the South Mountain railroad company, who was in Harrisburg yesterday, is of opinioa that the grading of this new and important line will be completed next summer from Harrisburg to Hamburg. An extension of the road has been determined on, aud ft tnirve.y frou Hamburg to the Del aware river is uow beiug made with a view to tms end. Tno ultimate intention is to have a through line from this city to by way of the Delaware and the Hudson. It was originally deaigntd to have the western terminus of the South Mountain railroad at Rockville, but we are informed the project las been a bandoned and Harrisburg is to be substituted.

The deep snow has materially interfered with ihe work of buildiog the new railroad, but notwithstanding considerable headway has been made the past week. The force of workmen engagod on the line is about SOU, which will be largely increased ht the expiration of the winter season. 8HftiwsnuaT. We glean the following from the Shrewsbury correspondence to the Gazette of this week The new storo room and warehouse of Messrs. George P.

Everhart at Shrewsbury Station, has been completed and is now oocupied. The building is brick, 60x44 feet, two stories high with slate roof, and erected in the most substantial manner. The store room'is 25x44 feet with 12 ceiling; is located on tho south end of the new building, connecting with the etotre warehouse. The room has been fitted up in modern style, with open front and receaa windows. The old store room is to be fitted up for railroad offices and station rooms.

We will soon have the best railway accommodations along the line of the road. Col. A. Wilhelm, the popular manager of Cornwall Iron Works, paid this place ft flying viflit on Monday of last week.
