It is not for the of tbe working man that he wishes the store" kspt open one hour later, at be says. It is the elmigbt cW that be cares for He also says that tbe working' iHud hit- bo time to buy his gaods until be gets borne alii est his supper the stores are closed. That is a very trifling excuse. You all know that the wives of those med do tbe buying generally, and when they do any buying themselves they do it on Saturday nights, as they do not get their pay until friday evenings. There is Saturday nights when tbe store! "fe open until 10 o'clock, at which time he can buy roh to last bim all the following week.

He also says that in winter when there is scarcely any walking done, the re are kept open until 9 o'clock, an! in summer L'e'tf th side walks are crowded the stores are closed at 7 clcck. This is another trifling comparison. Every person knows that there are more goods sold duriog iLe lifter months than during tbe aull months of June, July, aud August, when the heat is great. We know that there is more promenading done in the summer evenings than winter, but not as many goods bought. The committee of arrangements very re speotfully request our citizens to display their flags and decorate their dwellings and water the streets on the route of prooession. Letter From th People. Thf Mirket Iloutt Question. Mr. Editor: As on who feels equally interested with others, who are property-bold efs in and about the Square, I would say it becomes us lo look at this question, without making dunces of ourselves by writing stupid articles for the paper, which have nothing in them Save tho manifestation of supreme selfishness.

In the disposition of this question, those who have favored the removal of the market houses from the square to some other locality have had something to say worth looking at and carefully considering, whilst on the other hand, those who want to keep tbe old sheds just where they are, hive Said literally nothing, save that tboir property and their business might suffer, aal, therefore, it would be an awful disaster if anybody else would derive any advantage from such removal. After considering this matter carefully, I have come to tbe conclusion that nothing better could be done in our town than the removal of those old sheds it is folly to waste any more money in them. They would still be "insufficient and unsightly, a disgrace to our venerable old borough," and a steuch in the nostrils of every on who gets near them. The apprehonsion that business and property would suffer from such removal is unfounded. We bavo the capital and we have tbe large business houses in and about Centre Square, and we will hold the business just there, no matter whether the market bouse is put on Oreenawalt's corner or any other corner within a The "True Democrat" truly says "It looks as though the parties who would object on this score, lack the enterprise to advertise' their business any other way but by having the customers thrust on them by tbe town, by keeping up a market bouse in front of their stores." Now then, I propose aotion If the town authorities cannot afford to give the citizens and market people sufficient accommodations in a suit-ubia place, and thereby realize twenty per.

on tbe investment, as is the case in Columbia aud, I think, in Lancaster, then Id us have something else; a atook company will pay; try it, for them will be no trouble in dis-osing of the stock.
