Lo, The Poor Indian, Tells About the Red Bird Bert Sawyer, allas Running Bear, and his brothers Alvin, sometimes the Turtle, yesterday afternoon challed the Toxaway train as it gathered speed from the Asheville station and managed to pull, on board, al. hough the job was a hard one for the "Mud Turtie." They invaded the parlor car and Running Bear inquired of President J. Burrows, "of the Toxaway Hotel company, who the train, "Partner, this train Marion," and tapping his breast said. "Me Indian." Mr.

Burrowes was afraid that if he told the men that the train was not going to Marion they would jump off and break their necks so he old them to wait until the conductor came and he would find out and had a trainman lock the door so the Indians could not jump off. Curtis, for the sum of his brother walked back toward Asheville. On the way he met the Mud Turtle. The Turtle, seems, had jupuped off the train and fallen into the mud and was a sorry sight. He and the Barr then decided to postpone the Marion tap and set off for the uptown places of On the way they quarreled about the desertion of the Turtle and fell to fighting on Southside avenue and Officer Lominac landed them. He ex meted five flasks of whiskey from the two and was of the opinion that they were magicians when ho still further exploged and got a pistol from the Turtle and a collection of sundry articles from both men.

When the were were on the train Mr. Burrowes tested them by asking if they knew the meaning of the Indian word "Toxaway." COURT MAY ADJOURN. Very rapid progress has been made 'n the present rm of the Federal court and it is expected that the business will be concluded some time today and an adjournment taken. MR. MC CARSON WAS WELL-KNOWN HERE The death on the 22d inst. of David R.

McCarson in Rowan county took from that section one of its oldest cittzens, Mr. McCarson having antained his 90th year. He was the son of David McCarson of Henderson and a grandson of Jacob Weaver. He. is survived by six children, Julius E.

and James L. McCarson, Mrs. J. F. Swink Mrs.

J. R. Caldwell, Mrs. L. Cowan and Ida McCarson.

The deceased was well known here and had many relatives in the west. especially in Henderson county. He was a highly respected gentleman, and his death was heard with sorrow by all who knew him. The Citizen was informed yesterday that arrangement have been made during the past week by the North Carolina geological survey and the United States bureau of fisheries by which the two departments will COoperate in staking off the boundarles of the open way for the shad other fish coming from the Atlantic ocean into and through Albemarle Sound No their spawning grounds. Men will detailed from department at Washington to co-operate with the North Carolina officials in saking off this open way and they will also co-operate with the state in the maintenance and protection of same. With the struction of this open way shad and other fisp industries will be very largely increased. For Public Roads. The acting state geologist recently attended a meeting of the citizens of Chapel Hill wownship called to discuss the question of better public roads in the township.

There have been a number calls for members of the geological survey stuff to meet county commissioners of different counties and it is the aim of the geological survey to have some of its members to meet with county over town officials wherever it is desired to give information regarding the -value of macadamized public roads and how to issue bonds to raise the necessary funds for the construetion of same.
