After shooting 39-38, 77, in the morning, Maxwell hopped over to Media Heights in the afternoon and toured the tricky layout in sub-par figures. Out in 36, one under par, he returned in 35, also one under par, for a 71 the only sub-par lS-hole score of the qualifying round. Herbert Eshelman, of Lancaster Country club, a star of the Yale University golf team, who won his first title at the Country club of York last summer, placed second in the list of Qualifiers. After a par-blistering 33, three under par, on the first nine at the Lancaster Country club this rooming, Eshelman scrambled home in 42 for a 75 and then carded 37-38, 75, for a 36-hole total of 150 a very noble achievement for the defending titleholder when one considers what Eshelman was through this week. Jumping to Chicago he participated in the National Collegiate golf championship.

After a night'e rest, Eshelman boarded an airplane in Chicago early this morning; flew to Camden, N. came from there to Lancaster by auto and twenty-five minutes after he had arrived at the Lancaster Country club he was teeing off at the first hole. Two Former Champs Fail A dramatic touch was lent to the tournament when Herb's father, H. Roy Eshelman, nearly squeezed into the first flight. He had an 80 this morning and an 83 this afternoon, for 163 a score which stood as sixteenth low score for the day until the last competitor, Larry O'Conner, of Reading, holed out, bringing in a 163 and tying the elder Eshelman for the sixteenth place.

Goini, out in the twilight hours, Eshelman and O'Conner halved the first hole, and then O'Conner took the second with a par four, eliminating the elder Eshelman from the first Minnesota. He is hoping to organize H. W. Kulp, Media 61 66117 a school to teach fancy skating. Per Totals 2 7 21 3 3 Cor.
