The time was pleasantly and profitably spent with sewing and social conversation after which the hostess served an appetizing luncheon of sandwiches, salad, cake and tea. Is extended to all the Grants Pass citizens to attend this reception and meet the teachers who have been en gaged to teach In our scnools. Ed. Bearlocher on Third street last Friday afternoon. Mrs. Bearlocher was the hostess, assisted by her mother, Mrs. S.

H. Fenn, and the event was one of the most thor otighly enjoyable that has taken place in church circles for some time. A. Williams was given a very pleasant surprise on Thursday evening of last week In honor of her birthday anniversary. Cowdrey on Wednesday evening of last week by the members and friends of the Christian church. The reception given In the church parlors and about 75 guests were present to help while away the merry hours, which, however, were shadowed with sadness on account of the near departure from Grants Pass of Mr. and Mrs. Cowdrey, who lenve next week for their old homo at Topeka, where they go to reside permanently. Tho church had been beautifully decorated for the occasion and this, together with the Jolly games, music and refreshments, made the event ono to bo long remembered by all In attendance.

A small but very enjoyable dancing party was given at the Guild hall Monday evening In honor of Miss Alma Wolke, who leaves Grants Pnss soon for Tomona, to attend school. There were about 30 couples present and several hours worn passed In keeping tlmo to the merry strains of music furnished by Mr. nnd Mrs. R. L.

Front and Sixth Streets, rants Pass, Ore. The Southern Pacific railroad has had published a ten-page leaflet en titled "ColoniHt Fares Point the Wav Now to Grants Pass." The leaflet Is printed In two colors and gives a very enthusiastic account of Grants Pass and the Rogue River valley. It describes all the sections tributary to this city and tells of the various natural resources of the dis trict. Two pages are devoted to the colonist rates which go into effect September 15 and remain effective for thirty days.
