Oak St. Dis MiSS MAs NEW FORT OR LAUDE What in the world would this quartet of comely "bathies," all from down South in Dixie, be doing 'way up north in Atlantic City, N. Well, you guessed it. They're contestants in the annual beauty page: eant for the title of "Miss America of Left to right, the bathies answer to the names of Mary Jane Thomas, "Miss Fort Rebecca Pearl Hankins, "Miss Alice Talton, "Miss Atlan- ta," and Irene B. Schoenberger, "Miss New Orleans." Court was not expected to hand down rulings until next week on constitutionality of special legislation giving the House committee inquiry precedence over the Dauphin county grand jury investigation of charges the Governor and 13 other Democratic officials and politicians perpetuated a "system of crime" involving corruption, bribery, extortion and blackmail for political purposes.

The committee, created last month, became active Wednesday when the Supreme Court overruled the order of Berks County Judge Paul N. Schaeffer, a Democrat specially assigned to the case by the appellate court, impounding for the grand jury the graft evidence assembled by Shelley, Margiotti and their associates. Shelley was questioned by the legislative group that night and again yesterday, yielding names and addresses of 375 prospective grand jury witnesses. Shelley identified 28 of those listed as holders of "purely hearsay evidence" which probably would be of no value to him as the prosecutor of the Earle administration temporarily placed in the role of witness for the legislators who blocked his court proceedings. The "Hearsay" list included names of Congressman Robert F.

Rich, Woolrich industrialist: Joseph Sharfsin, Philadelphia city solicitor; Gus Stenmetz, Harrisburg, former press agent for the Republican State Committee; Archibald M. Matthews, Somerset county district attorney; "Judge" Gowthrop, former chairman of the State Liquor Control Board; John C. Arnold, Clearfield, who was special prosecutor for the Earle administration in the bribery case against State Senator William H. Clark of Chester county three years ago, and Shelley himself. SPRINGS Leonard Klawitter, 35, of 329 east Third street, this city, died in the Ashland State Hospital shortly after 11:00 o'clock this morning. He was admitted to the hospital on August 30 when he suffered an acute attack of appendicitis. At the hospital it was found that the appendix had already ruptured. Gangrene set in afterwards and his condition remained serious. Mr.

Klawitter was a native and lifelong resident of Mount Carmel and was a son of Mrs. Rose (Yetski) Klawitter, resident of 9 north Walnut street, and of the late Frederick Klawitter. For quite few years he had been employed as a repairman at the Locust Gap colliery. He was a member of the Grace Reformed Church, of the Anthracite Fire Company and of the Social Civic Club here. To survive are his wife, the former Catherine Markle Morgan; his mother; and the following brothers and sisters: Charles, Henry and Louis, at home, Elmer and Harry, of Mount Carmel, Albert, of Aristes, Mrs.

Harry Roadarmel, of Kulpmont, and Mrs. Samuel Tish, of Philadelphia. No funeral arrangements were announced today. Margiotti At Probe, Ready To Take Stand (Continued from Page One) Shelley said he proposed to prove that charge in part by Margiotti. Salsburg took up each of the 17 paragraphs in Shelley's amended petition for the grand jury probe and demanded to know the names of witnesses to be called in each case.

The witness named Margiotti and added others in several instances. The committee recessed until 2:30 P.M., EDT without ruling on the suggestion of Thomas that Shelley be asked to prepare a complete list of witnesses i he intends to call for each charge, and also withheld advising Margiotti whether he would be called this afternoon. Margiotti explained he would hold himself in readiness to appear at any time but requested that he be accommodated so as not to sit through "days" of testimony of other witnesses. Shelley advised the House investigating committee today that he intended to subpena Gov. George H.

Earle for his projected Dauphin country grand jury investigation of graft charged against the Earle administration. That revelation came as Shelley was called to the witness stand for the third public hearing by the House committee of five Democrats and two Republicans, assigned to the legislative inquiry. Shelley said in reply to a question of Abram Salsburg, counsel for the committee, that he also intended to subpena the Governor's 13 associates who were named in his petition for the grand jury inquiry charging that "a system of crime" has existed in the administration since Earle took office in 1935. In opening the session, Salsburg advised Shelley that the account of yesterday's record revealed only 284 names of witnesses as compared with 375 which the district attorney said he had. The House chamber was filled with spectators as the session started at 10:40 a.m.

EDT. Margiotti was accompanied by two of his former deputies who served him before he was dismissed as attorney generalEdward Friedman and N. R. Wymard. Friedman also was under committee suspena.
