GO FOR NEW MACHINE Mr Greenwell said that Simon had gone to put his car away in a garage about 100 yards from the house was fairly dark and Simon told me he was hit on the head as he got out of the car As far as we know only one man was involved in the kidnapping was tied up and driven over to a hut near Winchester about 30 miles away was totally unaware of what had happened We had gone out to dinner and1 had not worried when Simon return to the house as he frequently goes It was while Mr Greenwell was at dinner that the kidnapper first rang home He spoke to 16-year-old sister Joanna man said he wanted to speak to me and said: not tell the and have some money The kidnapper appeared to be in no hurry and said he would be in touch again The amount involved was £30000 Simon had been blindfolded and gagged before being pushed into tile fishing hut on a bank of the River Itchen He was then left alone At 920 pm only ten minutes after the ransom demand he freed himself ran to a nearby house and called the police Police who went to the hut saw a car As they approached it a man named as water bailiff John Walter Ogden (25) stepped out A shotgun that he had in the car was fired he fell wounded Today detectives were waiting to interview Ogden who had several operations and was admitted in a critical condition to the intensive care unit at Southampton Chest Hospital His home is near Bishops Waltham Hants BOND WINNERS WALL HAS TO A jet dyeing machine the largest in Britain was being installed today at the Queens Road dyeing and bleaching works of and Hicking Nottingham Pentecost textile group It brings the investment in modern dyeing machinery at the factory to £250000 The machine is expected to be fully operational in about two weeks Soldier shot A soldier was very seriously ill in hospital in Belfast early today after being shot in the abdomen while patrolling late last night His patrol returned fire at the junction of New Lodge Road and Eddingham Street but did not claim any hits But after two hours bound and gagged in a hut he struggled free and alerted the police Today with a bump on his head he was sleeping at the Belgravia London home of his father
