THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24,1964 ALTON EVENING TELEGRAPH Launching Improvements More Improvements are planned for the public launching and parking area at the mouth of Plasa Creek. Boatowners will not have to wade into the water to board or to load their boats when all facilities are completed, according to Sam A. Parr, Administrative Assistant, Illinois Department of Conservation. Here is a letter we received from Parr in answer to our query. "We have a little work to do on the low end of the launching area and an addition of a few concrete planks to give us better use of the ramp during extremely low pool stages.

"We are also planning on putting a four-foot floating dock on each side of the ramp next spring. We are going to try and anchor a three-foot dock in the center of the four ramps. Skip pers then will be able to slide their boats in and walk out on the dock and handle them without jumping into the water. Quickly Used "We build these docks at our Havana headquarters and have been using them on other areas. "The Piasa launching area got ahead of itself this year.

It was so badly needed due to lack of facilities in this area and the public started using it. We fell that it was better to let them use it as long as they didn't interfere with the work. construction "We hope to have a concession in the next year and pro- Obituaries Stocy vide other services that the public needs." The launching ramp was most welcomed in this area. It serves a concentration of boatowners iecond in numbers in the state. It represents an initial Investment by the Conservation Department of $75,000 plus and will go much higher when final- completed.

Although the ramp is located iust over the Madison County line in Jersey County, the spot could not have been better chosen to serve Greater Alton area Doatowners. The launching area in the sheltered waters of the mouth of the creek a short distance from Alton Lake. Effective Lures What lures and baits to use always has been a problem to anglers who have a limited time to enjoy their sport. Wasting time on a non-effective lure is time never regained. Here is te percentage rates of effectiveness in the types of lures used. Jigs and eels 18; plastic worms 15.8; underwater plugs 28.5; spinner lures 21; spoons surface lures 5.1; live bait 10; and unknown baits .6. The World Series of Sport Fishing is set at Bull Shoals Lake the week of Oct. 17 to 24. The first day of the Missouri State Fishing Contest is set for Sept.

Maude Van Meter 8 RUMMAGE 8 25 PASTRY SALES CLEVELAND (AP) Chuck McKinley and Dennis Ralston have a special incentive in the Davis Cup Challenge Round this weekend both admit it may be their last. McKinley, 24, plans to abandon the international tennis circuit after this year and concentrate on a career in stocks and bonds. Ralston, 22, is seriously eyeing the pros.

"If we should lose the Davis Cup, I definitely wouldn't be available to go to Australia," McKinley, recent graduate of Trinity University in San Anto nio, said today. wouldn't have time. "I plan to go into business the financial end of it, maybe Wall Street. I might play Wimbledon but I wouldn't take a month out of the summer to make the tour." Ralston, 22 with another year to go at the University of Southern California, acknowledged that he was more than casually interested in joining the pros. "I would like to win Wimbledon or our championship first, but that's not essential," he added.

"If we won here and I got a good offer, I'd probably take it." Ralston and McKinley, who wrested the cup from the Australians last year in Adelaide, will try to defend it in tennis' world finals Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the green clay composition court of the Harold T. Clark Stadium. They will play both singles and doubles against the heavily favored Australian tandem of Roy Emerson and Fred Stolle. The draw was scheduled at 11 a.m. EST today at a midtown hotel, arranging pairings for the three-day, best-of-five match Football Again At Stagg Field CHICAGO (AP)-Stagg Field, where A.

A. Stagg's mighty Unt versity of Chicago Maroons once trod, will be scene of a collegiate football game Saturday for the first time in 25 years. The clash between Chicago branch of the University of Illinois and Eureka (111.) College is the first varsity contest on the venerable urf since Nov. 21, 1939, last appearance by a Maroon eleven. That was the last season the University of Chicago fielded a football team, although the school did not formally withdraw from the Big Ten until 1948.

Two years later, Michigan State replaced CMcago as a conference member. The 1939 finale resulted in a 46-0 trimming of the Maroons by the University of Illinois.
