THE RICHMOND NEWS LEADER, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 1934 25 Smith Rites at U. Va. Funeral Services Saturday for Widely-Known Virginia Artist. Funeral services for Duncan Smith, 58. widely known Virginia artist, who died yesterday at the University hospital.

University Virginia, after a alone illness, will be held at 10:30, A. M. Saturday at the university, with interment in the family section at the university cemetery. Mr. Smith was born in 1876 and was a son of the late Professor Francis H.

Smith and Mrs. Mary Stuart Harrison Smith. His father was for many the professor of physics the University of Virginia and was one of the notable scholars and teachers of his day in this country. His mother was a daughter of Professor Gessner Harrison, also one of the notable members of the faculty of the university of an older period. Duncan Smith as a boy resided in the home of his on the "lawn" and he was educated at the University of Virginia where he graduated with the master of arts degree.

Later he studied art at the American Academy in Rome and also at the Art Students League in New York. Among his most important works are murals in the Southern Railway building. in Washington. in the Du Pont hotel. in Wilmington and in the Ochs Memorial, at Chattanooga.

Tenn. His works, which included portraits and landscapes as well as murals, have been exhibited at galleries in New York and at the Architectural League center here. He was for many years a member of the Salmagundi Club in New York and also a member of the Architectural League and Mural Painters of America. He is survived by his widow. who was Miss Alice Coleman Nelson.

Funeral Held For Dr. Dunn Services for Physician, Churchman Takes Place From All Saints. Funeral services for Dr. Johni Dunn. 72, long prominent here as A physician, citizen and churchman.
