Shortly after Dr. Heller completed his examination the other jurors gathered around her cot and agreed on the verdict within a few minutes. Bruno, together with his sons, Alfred and James, his brother, Phillip, his nephews, Arthur and Paul, and a brother-in-law, Anthony Orlando, were taken into custody during the week that followed the shooting in the small mining community where the Bruno's Republican regime was bitterly opposed by the Democratic faction under the leadership of Carl and Daniel Mac-Aloose.
