Slowly it increased until a throbbing noise gave evidence of the plane's position somewhere In the sky to the north of here, but as swiftly as the drumming had approached, it died away into the east as the winged machine followed the ground lights over a winding path tdward New York. This was the first mall carrying airplane to pass over this section at night It was heard by scores of people, but no one saw It; its direction was determined only by sound. Sunday morning a mail plane descended at the Island Park landing station to make repairs. A long string of smoke and an occasional flash of fire told of trouble and pilot was experiencing In tho skies.

When repairs, were completed the plane darted off in that direction of Uellefonte. The machines will arrive over this vicinity around the midnight hour it is believed when the regular trips are made. The landing field at Island Park is an emergency station and planes in need of repairs or re-fueling will stop there. At the same time, testing operations will be carried on at the station, however, and eventually even planes will be stationed at. the field, it has been announced.
