WITH DRUNKEN DRIVING Hanover Man Arrested After His Car Is Alleged To Have Hit Two Others TRACE LICENSE NUMBER Hanover, May Shaffer, Broadway, was arrested tonight shortis, on before, charge 11 of o'clock by drunken Hanover driving after a machine allegeduck have been operated by two automobiles. The information was laid before Justice of the Peace Lester J. Sell by Officer J. Frank Mulhorn.

Shaffer is court proceedure on a similar, charge in Adams county, it is understood. A machine owned by Virgil Leecaleet, rear of 17 McAllister street, figured in collision with another automobile at the intersection of Carlisle and Chestnut streets at 10:30 o'clock tonight. The other driver left the scene without stopping but witnesses noted the license number and reported it to police. The driver of the machine that was struck did not report to police. A short while later police received a report that a machine bearing the same license number struck a machine on Broadway owned and operated by J.

C. Heltebridle, 40 Ridge avenue. Again the car did not stop. Investigation by Officers Mulhorn and Calvin D. Musselman was started immediately.

The officers came upon the car bearing the license number that was reported just as it drew to the curb in front of Shafter's home. They took Shaffer into cuetody as allegedly staggered from the vehicle. Gettysburg League Meets The Hanover branch of the Women's League of Gettysburg college met this afternoon at the home of Mrs. Fannie Reynolds, 303 East nut street. The home was tastefully decorated for the occasion.

Forty members and guests were pregent. Devotions were conducted by Mrs. 0. C. Dean.

A musical program followed. Mrs. W. A. Baer, Littlestown, presented a vocal solo with piano accompaniment by Miss Ruth Melhorn.

Mrs. J. B. Weeks played a cornet solo and furnished her own piano accompaniment. A violin solo was contributed by Miss Eileene Shaffer with piano accompaniment by Miss Doris Baker.

After presentation of the program the guests were invited to the dining-room for tea. Mrs. Harry Hursh Beidleman and Mrs. F. E.

Cremer poured. The next meeting of the Hanover branch will be in the form of a picnic in July. Complete Sewerage Line Borough workmen have completed laying 100 feet of eight- inch-diameter terra-cotta sewerage line on Froney avenue- -West Middle street job. Work was started the latter part of last week. work is being done as an independent borough project ie under supervision of C.

A. Eckbert, borough manager. The plans call for 382 feet of pipe on Forney avenue and 454 on West Middle street. The pipe is being laid in trenches six feet deep. Workmen, reported striking slate-rock of three feet.

However, no blasting has been necessary yet. The ditch is being refilled as the line is laid. Announce Marriage Mary L. Rohrbaugh, daughter of Mrs. Emma Rohrbaugh, 564 Broadway, and William B.

Carver, of Mr. and Mrs. William D. Carver, 258 Baltimore street, were married at Pound Ridge, N. August 17, 1935, according to an announcement made today.

After June they will reside at 320 Broadway. Mrs. Carver is a graduate of Juniata college, Huntingdon, and Mr. Carver is a graduate of Washington and Lee university, Lexington, Va. He is one of the proprietors of the McAllister Men's Baltimore street.

Study Club To Convene The final meeting of the season will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Women's Study club in the Young Women's Christian association, Carlisle street. Mrs. Erle K. Diehl, president, will preside. Devotions will be in charge of Mrs.

F. E. Cremer. Mrs. William Montgomery, secretary, will give the annual report.

Miss Doris E. Baker and Mrs. Martha Sando Menchey will play a piano duet. Miss Pauline Toomey will play a violin solo. The Barnstormers will present a playlet.

Aaron Boyer Buried The funeral of Aaron Boyer, who died last Saturday morning at Dover, was held this afternoon with brief services at the house at 1:30 o'clock.

Concluding services were conducted in the Salem Lutheran church by Rev. J. H. Hege. The pallbearers were John Lauer, Franklin Lauer.

Jennings Lauer, Paul Lauer, Roman Boyer and Morgan Maul. Interment was in Salem Union cemetery, near Dover. this morning by Justice of the Peace Lester J. Sell to await a hearing Thursday evening, charged with a serious offense. The arrests were made by Deputy Sheriff Herbert Hemler.

Church, Hanover, Pa. Adv. SCHOOL BOARD INCREASES TAX Spring Grove Directors Raise Levy Six Mills; Per Capita Jumped $2 BOOST TEACHERS' PAY Spring Grove, May a regular meeting of the school board held this evening in the high school building, an increase of six mills tax on real estate and a per capita tax increase of $2 was levied for 1937-'38. The resolution that was adopted and unanimously passed by the board pertaining to the 1937-'38 budget change sets the new tax rate at the rate of 15 mills for general fund and four mills the sinking fund. estate.

The contract for the six-row folding bleachers was awarded to the Universal Bleacher company, Champaign, Illinois, for $1,295. Grant Five Per cent Raise A general raise in salary of five per cent was granted to the teachers and janitor for next year. Mrs. Ida K. Thomas was re-elected treasurer for next year at a salary of $60. J.

Ida K. All the new bills were ordered paid which left a balance in general account of $3,148 and $19,491 in the construction account. William S. McClellan, president of the board, read a letter was received from G. W.

Andrews. state director of the PWA, granted the approval of the contract that changed the order relative to the construction of the side- walks and approaches to the building, the contract of which was awarded to I. Reindollar Son. John B. Miller, athletic director of the school, presented his annual report of the school activities a including health and athletic activities for the year.

Spurgeon T. Shue, and James Overmiller: Secretary Milton Swartz and Architect F. G. Dempwolf. 30 Join Boys' Band More than thirty boys have already been enrolled for a boys' band that is being organized by Paul Fultz, Lehman -and Robert Menchy, Hanover.

A survey has made today of all the boys in Spring Grove and vicinity who are engaged in practice on a musical instrument. A number of other boys who would like to join the organization but have no instruments, will be given instruments for this purpose. Many of the instruwhich were used by the old Spring Grove band that disbanded a number of years ago will be remodelled and given to these lads who desire to play them. It was said that P. H.

Glatfelter, who has sponsored the old Papermakers band a number of years ago will purchase the boys' new uniforms providing the organization meets with success. Mr. Glatfelter, it was said, will also donate the use of a third floor room of the Papermaker's building to the boys for the purpose of holding their rehearsals. This room, which was used by both the Papermakers and Spring Grove bands for more than a decade of years, has recently been remodelled and painted. Mr.

Fultz and Mr. Menchey, the organizers of this band, are members of the Knights of Pythias band of Hanover. Mr. Fultz plays first trombone with the Hanover band and Mr. Menchy fills the chair of first clarinet.

Hold Outing An outing was conducted last night by the foremen and members of the safety council of the P. H. Glatfelter company, paper manufacturers, at the Glatfelter pond in the Pigeon Hills. The men were served a turtle soup supper. The serving was done by caterers employed by Bierman's restaurant, York.

To Continue Sewing Class The Adult Education program announced today that beginning this week, the sewing group will meet 1:30 to 4 p. m. each Thursday frothe Spring Grove High school. This is one hour earlier than the time previously during the summer, new members are welcome to join the the start of this week's session. There is no charge.

LEVI SMITH, YORK NEW SALEM. TAKEN BY DEATH York New Salem, May Catherine Smith, wife of Levi D. Smith, died at 2:30 o'clock this morning at her home at York New Salem, aged 66 years. Death was caused by a complication of diseases. She leaves her husband; two sons.

Curvin Smith, York New Salem, and Paul Smith, at home; an adopted Harry Hoffman, Stoverstown, and two brothers, Michael Schrum, Harrisburg. and Jacob Schrum, The funeral will be held at 9:30 o'clock on Friday morning. Brief services will be held at her home and concluding services in St. Jacob's Union church, York New Salem. Rev.
