Plans July Wedding The engagement of Patricia Loebi e and Leo Edward Miltner, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Miltner, Sheridan Wyoming, is announced by the bride- elect's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Al Loebig, Wesley. Miss Loebig will graduate from the College of St. Mary, Omaha, Nebr., in May. Her fiance was graduated from the Creighton University College of Pharmacy, also in Omaha. A July wedding is being planned. NMBMUNin^^ . .by Evelyn "MnHMini^^ YOU HAVE HEARD of "bucket brigades" when lines of men with buckets hopefully attacked afire. We have a "food brigade" here at Good Samaritan due to the motor on the elevator which died on the job, and until it can be repaired, the aides form a line and trays are sent up and down. It is quite a distance to third floor so the "brigade" was an inspiration. - o - WHAT A DIFFERENCE there is between men and women! The dining room is across the hall from my room and they eat in silence and total concentration on food. The aides who eat later chat and have fun as well as food. I am the only woman on first floor, and have my meals sent in on a tray. No, I don't talk to myself. - o - MY INVITATION to the Inaugural Ball and ceremonies came this morning. As I said, were I the gay person I-was once, I'd have a complete outfit from head to toe. I wonder what I'd choose? - o - SOME ONE asked me about the Post family and since I am not doing locals, except when people call me (and I am glad to have them) I haven't had my chats with Lavonne or Lizzie. So I just hung up after a chat with Lavonne. All are making good progress on their various ailments. Joan, who had back surgery, is doing very well but found a ride to a nearby town with her dad, who was making a business trip, didn't agree to well with her back. Rick's eyes are improving, Dick is OK, so are Lizzie and Lavonne and Bob and Rex are"'in the pink". - o - CAN YOU IMAGINE Arizona and New Mexico making headlines with their temperatures so much lower than our midwest? I don't mean to gloat, but it is amusing for those winter "play grounds" being anything but that for awhile. They are so smug and California with her smog, well, we lowans can smile a little, can't we? - o - IS ISN'T FAIR to judge the new Andry Griffith show with only one appearance, but unless it changes a lot, it will not come up to "Mayberry" when "Aunt Bea" and opie were on it. I wonder what became of "Aunt Bea". And if Brian Keith leaves "Family Affair", there's another show "Gone With The Wind" so to speak. - o - ALAS! MY POINSETTA given to me Christmas by Antoinette Bonstetter begins to show signs of giving up the ghost. It is being given "intensive care" in hopes it can be revived. It 'was so beautiful and so graceful, and such beautiful blooms. Can you think of a prettier shade of red? (Later, plant revived by extra water! Esther Kading in charge) - o - I CAN'T KEEP UP with these young folk marriages. Here is an aide, Dixie Crail, now with a diamond on her left hand and she has been Mrs. Beaver a few weeks. - o - SHIRLEY SNYDER had charge of the program at the W.S.C.S. meeting Thursday Jan. 8 and used a poem "We Love Our Little Ailments". It is too long to put in this column but it is very cute and so true. I vow I won't mention my arthritis again, but like New Years resolutions, will probably be broken. - o - YOU SHOULD HAVE seen my desk one day last week. I was so buried in canceled checks which were long enough ago that they could be destroyed and I couldn't help wishing I could have the amounts back, no strings attached. I know I have plenty of company. 1970 has been very harden me. Oh well, I have much to be thankful for after all. THIS IS PROBABLY the dullest column I ever wrote, but it seems as though everyone has dug in for the winter. We are near ing "Ground Hog" day but he always sees his shadow and we all know there will be six weeks more of winter. It's just a silly superstition anyhow. - o - WHO SAYS NICE clean snow is good for nothing? In your youth didn't your mother make snow- ice cream for you? A bowl of the white stuff, some cream, sugar and vanilla, and umm it was good. And the days of no electric refrigeration, mousses etc. could be set in snow deep around it, and lo! A delicious dessert! - o - And haven't you made "snow angels"? Lie flat on your back, then move your arms from below hips to head, there are the wings, and also, that may be the only angels we will ever be. Mind your ways at once! Snow men we made when it began to thaw, and snow balls I never made and didn't want any thrown near me. - o - AND WHAT children in warm climates have missed by bob sled rides and riding down hills on little sleds, oil for a ride in an old fashioned cutter! Piglets Perish In Form Fire N. Of Titonko TITONKA (Special) - A large farrowing house on the Verlyn Ubben farm five miles north of here burned to the ground Jan. 7. Five sows, two boars, two dogs and "between 150 and 200" piglets perished in the 1 a.m. blaze, according to Mr. Ubben. "We're not sure how it started," Mrs. Ubben said. "We were sleeping at the time. Someone else saw it and called my father-in-law,. John Ubben of Buffalo Center, and he called us ... We had just weaned the pigs so the sows were out." Mrs. Ubben said the loss was insured, but perhaps not to its full value. New Soc. Sec. Rates Employers are reminded that starting January 1,1971 the social security employee tax rate was raised to 5.2 percent. This was an increase from the 4.8 percent Kossuth County Advance - 3 Monday, January 18, 1971 rate in 1970, according to Clifford W. Swedlund, manager of the Fort Dodge District Social Security Office. Employers match the 5.2 percent. ST.
