By (Dec) Horten Many rabid supporters of Corpus Christi High Buccaneers are coming in with suggestions that the school would do well to organize an all-girl Pirate drill squad to add color to the throat and strut section The maneuvers of the ing Greenville High School's colorful girlie crew here Friday night drew considerable favorable comment Fans remember too the famed Orange High School color outfit which appeared here several years ago Buc fans would like to see a squad of the CCHS girls clad in regulation Pirate costume boots to peaked hats sashes blouses and shorts of school colors to compete with the color sections of other high schools It's an idea worth working on Knee Action Many fans in the stands Friday night were puzzled when Vernon Tracy referee Appeared to step off 15 yards against Greenville on the second half kickoff It was no penalty The Greenville receiver dropped to one knee upon taking the ball then arose to make a 15-yard sprint The ball was dead at the point where the receiver touched his knee to the ground so Tracy merely returned the ball to that point No penalty was signaled since the ball automatically is returned to the point where the ball carrier touches the knee to ground Five Downs Someone made a mistake somewhere on Corpus Christi's first touchdown My notes and those of Bill Lee show that the Bucs were given five downs We recall no penalty in the series which would have nullified one of the plays Here's the sequence as we made the notations in the press box: David Donnan had hammered the line for a first down on 16-yard line Then this happened Buddy Parker on a handolf got three yards in the middle then Parker ran right tackle slipped and fell on the Lion 9 Donnan's pass was dropped by Sid McHaney on the Lion 5 as the quarter ended Reopening play in the second quarter with three downs against them the Bucs sent James Jeffrey through the center for seven yards then Jeffrey on fifth downs spun through the middle of the lice for a first down on the 1-yard line The Bucs scored from here is two plays That's the way we wrote it down and that's how more than just a few fans counted it Friday night The Greenville coach apparently did not catch the count for nothing was forthcoming in the way of protest Gun Club Meets Plans for the new range will be reviewed and applications for new members accepted at a special meeting of the Corpus Christi Pistol and Rifle Club scheduled Monday night 8 o'clock at the Community House in Peary Place Lt CoL Meydon Lymbery and staff officers of the Texas State Guard the Oso believe there is no possibility of having a water supply available 'before next summer They think however that by careful work on the greens that rains will be sufficient this winter to keep the course in fair condition But the dam must be repaired in order to catch a water supply this winter that will last throughout next summer Although owned by the city of Corpus Christi the Oso course is served only by a small water line This supplies needs in the club house but is so small that it could not begin to supply needs on the course Some day possibly in the next five or so years lt will be possible for a city Water main 4pbe laidtp thqeoyvs that wilF'iupply 'it with city water But until that time the Oso Lake must be the water supply Anyway spoil the lake on the course and there much
