Kennedy were concerned with the issue of civil rights. Lincoln was elected in 1860, Kennedy in 1960. Both were slain on Friday in the presence of their wives; both were shot from behind and in their heads.

Their successors, both named Johnson, were Southern Democrats and both were in the Senate; Andrew Johnson was born in 1808, Lyndon Johnson in 1908. John Wilkes Booth who shot Lincoln was born in 1938; Lee Harvey Oswald who shot Kennedy was born in 1939. Both Booth and Oswald were Southerners who savored unpopular ideas and both were slain before they could be brought to trial. Both presidents' wives lost children through death while in the White House. Lincoln's secretary, whose name was Kennedy, advised him not to go to the theater; Kennedy's secretary, whose name was Lincoln (Mrs.

Evelyn) advised him not to go to Dallas. Both presidents were carried on the same caisson drawn by horses, followed by the riderless horse. After the open, large-wheeled hearse was used for Lincoln, it was put in storage in the White House basement and brought out again until it was used for Kennedy.
