Sec 33.

And be it further enarted, That all engineers and pilots of any such vessel shall, belorc entering upon their duties, make solemn oath before one of the inspectors herein provided for, to be recorded with the certificate, that he will laithfiilly and honestly, according lu his Lot skill and judgment, perform all the duties required of him this act, without concealment or reservation and if nny such engineer, pilot, ornny witness summoned under this act as a itmsa, shall, when underexam-ination on oath, knowingly and mtentiuimlly falsify the truth, such peison shall be deemed guilty of perjury, and Unconvicted be punished accotdingly. Sec. 39. Sec. 40. And be il further enacted, That it shall be the duty of he Secretary of the Treasury to such interrogatories to be prepared anil published as in his opinion may be proper to elicit the Infoi ma-lion contemplated by the preceding section, and upon the receipt of the examination nnd statements taken by the inspectors, shall report the same to Congress, together with the recommendation of such other provisions as he may deem proper to be made for the better security of the lives of persons on board slca iii-vcssels. Sec. 41.

And be it further enacted, That this act shall not apply to public vessels of the ulled States, or vessels of other countries, nor to steamers used as ferry boats, lug-boats, towing-boats nortostva-mers not exceeding one hundred and fifty tons burden, and iised in whole or in part for nuvigatingcan-nls. The inspection and certificate requited by this act shall in all cases of eccan steamers constructed under contract with the United States for the purpose, if dtsired, of being converted into war steamers, be inado by chief engineer of the navy, to be detailed for that service by the Secretary of the Navy; nnd he shall repot both to said Secretary ami to the supervising inspector of the district where he shall make anv inspection.

Sec. 43. And be it further enacted.
