New Butter Depot.

Mr. J. 3. Glenn has opened at Mo. 133 Ontario street a Butter Depot, to be devoted almost exclusively to the sale of butter wholesale and retail, lie has Otted np his store and made arrangements with a view to enccfM, and will not be outdone in his efforts to serve the public by any competitor.

It must strike any one as reasonable that the best of any article is to be found where that article is made a spe ciality, and we therefore commend the But ter Depot at 133 Ontario street to all who would get tho best butter at the cheapest rates. U. 8. Couet. Wm.

Accademy or Music. Lagt night ct the "Seven Sisters," being for the beuefit and last appoaranee of Mr. J. E. McDonougb, un der whose direction the play has been produced.

Mr. "Mrs. Pluto" has given to the public mnch amusement, by the drollery of bis performance of that character. As this will be tbe last night of the Seven Sisters" we advise all who have not witness ed the beauties of the last scene to embrace the only opportunity. It eclipses all stage grandeur we have ever beheld, either in this or any other city.

But apart from the last grand tableaux the play is full of attraction. The female Zonaves, comprising the Lightning Brigade, and commanded by Captain Tom Highboy," (Mrs. Dickson,) is quite a novelty. The ballet dance by twelve young Misses is also an interesting feature. And in addition to the "Seven Sisters" the ex travaganza of Mehitable Ann, or Yankee Tricks," will be performed.

Mrs. Hough appearing as" Mehitable Ann." Excitement at Crkstltne. The repu tation of this town has not been at all brightened recently by sundry Copperhead tracks found in the vicinity. For some time we have been advised ol the presence there of blatant sympathizers, who found little comfort in the strong arm of the Government that is at last weeding out dangerous men. 1 iterday one of tbe tifrma sons of tbe town had the benefit of a free ride to this city un der the escort of several of Uncle Sam's brave soldiers.

His name is Douglas. He has boon, as we learn, a very rampant and daring defender of Jeff. Davis, giving no heed to the warnings of loyal men that he would gethim-self into trouble. Manifestations of violenoe from the Copper heads led General Mason to send up a detach ment ot seventeen soldiers in tne alternoon to secure the safety of Union property and the peace of the town. Douglas was placed in the City Ba.racks, where he will remain for further hearing.

State Journal, 14tA. The New Peopelleeb Winslow. The Chicago Tribune, of the 1 ilh, makes the fol lowing notice of the above propellor, built in this city by Peck Masters This magnificent new steamer arrived in this port about two o'elock yesterday afternoon. She is of excellent model, and in point of strength of structure, is said to have no superior on the Western waters. Her dimensions are: length 2.30 feet, breadth of beam 36 feet, depth 15 feet, and custom boose tonnage 919 tons.

Her owners are the Messrs. Winslow, of Cleveland, in whose honor she is named. Her hull was built by Peck Masters, Cleveland, and her engines by the Cuyahoga works. The engine is the largest on the Lakes, and is a new design with many original and advantageous features, being an inverted, diroet-acting, condensing engine, cylinder 64 inches bore, and 40 inches stroke. For originality of design, strenth and thoroughness of construction, and beauty of finish, the engine reflects great credit npon the designer and builder.

The boat is furnished with a separate engine for pnmpiog, and one for lowering and hoisting freight, working with a shaft and going over oach of the hatches. Her size and breadth of beam render her saloons and state rooms more spacious and convenient than are nasually found npon vessels of her class. She is magnificently finished and furnished, and all that painters and upholsterers can do has been done, to fit np her cabins and single and double state rooms wilh comfort and luxury. Her acom-modations for passengers are probably unsurpassed by any steamer afloat. She is commanded by Captain J.

M. Smtth, a navigator, both on sea and fresh waters, who is amply qualified for the post. First mate, Geerge Field 2d Thomas Craig Engineer, S. C. Sturtevant; 2d J.

F. Williams; Clerk, J. Meade Steward, W. Ferris. This splondid propeller will make regular trips between Chicago and Buffalo.

She will leave this evening." A Cottlliob Party is announced at Metropolitan Hall on Friday evening May 15th. A prize dance at one o'clock a. m. WoczDiD Ohio Bouhtm i Waihixo-tok Hobpital. FROM WASHINGTON. the Cincinnati The District Supreme Court to-day in deciding certain points in a fugitive slave case, which is being tried before it, said One thing is certain, no man can be arrested and sent back to a disloyal master.

The institution of Slavery in its madness arbitrarily to control men, has involved the nation in a life struggle and has sent some of the best men of the country to a premature grave nevertheless the law will be executed, because it is a law, bnt no farther. The men who own this property are apparently dead to the life of the conn, try, and would sacrifice it for the negro. It is not to be disguised that the blood now shed is on the altar of this institution. The first negro regiment in the District now numbers nearly 900 volunteers. They will be speedily inspected and mustered into the United States service.

One company of the regiment marched np the Avenue to day, making the first appearance of negro troops in the National Capital. The resignation of Msjor-General C. Hamilton of Wisconsin, the hero of Iuka and Corinth, has been accepted. He had been left without a command, being outranked in the same district by General Hurlbut. He demanded an active command or the acceptance of his resignation.

The War Department accepted his resignation, and he is consequently out of the service. The Navy Department to-day received information from the proper authorities at Fortress Monroe that the officers and men of the following vessels, who had from time to time been made prisoners by the rebels, have been exchanged, of the steamers Mercedita, Queen of the West, Harriet Lane, Isaac Smith and Columbia, and of the schooner Vassar. FROM MURFREESBORO'. Extrac's from Rebel Papers, etc. the Cincinnati MURFREESBORO'.

May 13. The Chattanooga Rebel of the 0th inst is before me. It contains some valuable matters. Its Richmond telegrams may have been anticipated from other sources, but I send them to you at a venture Richmond, 7 10 o'clock. 1 Cbaxcellobsville, May 7.

'To Hit Excellency Preiidenl Davit "After driving Sedgwick across the Rappahannock, on the night of the 4th, I returned on the 5th to Chancellors-ville. The march was delayed by a storm, which continued all the night following. In placing the troops in position on the morning of the 6th, to attack Hooker, I ascertained that he had abandoned his fortified position. A line of skirmishers was pressed forward until they came in range of the enemy's batteries, planted north of the Rappahannock, which, from the configuration of the ground, completely commanded this side, and his, army therefore escaped with the loss of a few additional prisoners. E.

LEE." The following is an extract from a rebel letter: "While the enemy is developing his strategy, receiving reinforcements and gaining all kinds of advantages, Bragg's army is lying idle, qnietlyVwaiting Rose-crans' attack, which may not probably take place until hia flanking force will be well in Bragg's rear. It is very much to be regretted that Bragg' army can't be reinforced, and did not make an offensive movement early this spring, as soon as it could be mobilized. It is, in my opinion, not necessary to fight Eosecrans in his breastworks, as there is easy access by the Eagleville road to a position near Triune, flanking Murfreesboro' and Franklin, and at the same time threatening Nashville, which I prediot will be the road when Bragg's army advances." FROM COLUMBUS. the Cincinnati COLUMBUS, May 13. To-day the city has and surmises as to the cotton speculators, who were about to open an extensive con traband trade with the rebels via Matamo-ras, and also as to who the speculators are.

The whole matter is being thoroughly sift ed here by the United States authorities and as soon as the guilty parties are known from those who are suspected, but may prove to be innocent, their names will be announced. Some important testimony was taken to-day. General Mason sent a guard of soldiers this morning to Crestline, to arrest a man named Douglas, who, in a publio speech, advised resistance to the conscription. The soldiers were successful, and the Val- landighamer is now confined in the city barracks here. There were indications that there might be trouble at CresUine tonight, so troops were sent there this afternoon.

Two hundred and seven rebels were sent to City Point, Virginia, for the purpose of being exchanged. Major Clar ence Prentice is among them. Major Jones, of the State Quartermaster General's Department, who was sent distribute improved arms to a number Ohio regiments, has returned, having ac complished his mission. All but two the Ohio regiments with General Eosecrans are now supplied with first class Springfield or Enfield rifles. These regiments were overlooked.

Application has already been made for similar arms for them. Colonel Parrott is preparing his instructions for the. district Provost Marshals. His assistant, Adjutant-General Bieree, is on har.d to assist him. lo COFFEE.

Defeat of the Russian Army by the Circassians. Debate in Parliament on American Affairs. FROM THE RAPPAHANNOCK. NEW YORK, May 14. says Tumors Washington and the army, current here to day, are that fears of a rebel cavalry raid upon the capital are entertained in Washington, and for some days the planks of the chain bridge have been removed and full battery also stationed at the aque duct bridge.

On Sauday night last a rebel cavalry force made a dash through our lines and np to the chain bridge, but we cannot learn that the enterprise was attended with any advantages. This if true is evidently an act of mere bravado in return for Stone-man's exploits. Stoneman is at the headquarters of the Army of the Potomac, and Colonel Kil- patrick has received orders to report there. General Lee has detained all the nurses and surgeons who accompanied the ambu lance trains across the fords, and has also placed guns in position at Banks and U. fords, from which facts it is supposed that he intends to assume tbe offensive and cross the river and attack our forces.

It is quite certain Hooker had ordered portion of his army to recross tbe Rap pahannock some days ago as previously stated, in accordance with a plan formed before he commenced his retreat, but the plan was not approved by General Halleck, bo therefore countermanded it, hence the conflict in the reports concerning the repressing of the river by Hooker. General Butterneld has said that a movement cannot be made for some time. It seems not unlikely that General Hal leck contemplated assuming the com mand. FROM GRANT'S ARMY. CAIRO, May 14.

Ten Negro regiments have been formed. General Thomas, who has arrived from Memphis, thinks ten more will, undoubted ly be organized. Congressman yy ashDurne left our ex treme point on Friday. In the House of Lords Earl Russell said that as the question of the Peterhoff and the detention of her Majesty's mail had been the subject of discussion, it might be convenient that she should state the substance of the intimations he had received from Lord Lyons. Lord Lyons stated that in answer to his application, Mr. Be ward had informed him that tne American Government had determined not to release the vessel and cargo, but to send them before a Prize Court. With regard to the mail in conformity to the letter ol tbe alst October, they would be forwarded to their destination. Mr.

Seward stated that in any similar case the same course would be pursued until some agreement was arrived at on the subject. The law of nations did not appear laid down in any precise and olear rule, with regard to the practice which was somewhat novel, of sending mailbags by private ships.
