Address, LEONARD 8 COTT ft No. 54 Gold street, New York. lanaara cays sre informed by our friends front various sections of ihe district, that the wheat crop is beginning to assume a better appearance, and althong'' it haa been injured considerably by the cold weather, there may yet be, take this district over, a reasonable amount raised. In some sections, and in particular fields, there will be little or no wheat, while in others hopes are entertained of a reasonable yield. We are glad that the prospect for a crop is growing more favorable, and hope that it will prove better than was expected.

TheDoylestown (Pa.) Democrat The prospect of an abundant harvest, as wc learn from farmer friends, is now as flatter- iug as it has been in any past year. The grain appears to hare sustained but Tery little injury during the winter, even in low gronnd, snd is now coming up most beautifully, while the sunny days and refreshing rains which will soon favor us, will set everything all right. Should no accident hap- 5en, the omens are all suspicions for a splen id harvest in th section of the country The Bedford (Pa.) Independent says The wheat crop in aome portions of this county looks unusually fine, while in other portions it is very unpromising. At this season of the year, however, it is hard to form a correct idea of tha wheat crop. A correspondent of the Aurora (la.) Commercial writes The prospect for a crop of wheat the ensuing season grows better very day where a few weeks ago it looked to be badly winter killed, it now haa the appearance of a fair yield.

The ground was never in better order than it will be for plowing this spring, so with a fair season we may look for in abundance. The Baraboo (Wis.) Republic says Our farmers were last year a good dual discour, aged about successively cultivating winter wheat, and accordingly have done almost nothing toward raising that variety for the coining harvest. But the defh iency in that crop will be abundantly atoned for under the auspices of a favorable season, by the many acres of land now being and yet to be 5 lowed, for the sowing of spring wheat, 'he prices of this staple crop, the moat reliable perhaps of this State, having nearly steadily advanced ever since the last harvest, our farmers feel much encouraged to make this their main dependence for the eomiiig year. 1 Even thus early in the season, every fair day is improved to swell the number of acres intended for its cultivation. The Chicago Journal says A gentleman, after passing over the Michigan Central Railroad, informs the Detroit Advertiser that the growing wheat never looked better than now.

The Albm (III.) Courier save A gentleman from the neighborhood of Ridgely, with whom we conversed yesterday, reports the wheat prospects as good for just about half a crop, he thinks. Early sown looks much the best. Ilia business has called him into various parts of the country, and this is his report on the whole of it. That in timber is much more promisingthan that on the prairie. The Mount Sterling (Ky.) Ninth Legion ays that an average crop of wheat may be expected in that region the present season.

A Glimpse or Pandemonium An it -dividual who is in the habit of visiting the different saloons in the city, and, whenever he can sponge a drink, or haa the wherewith to buy it, imbibing freely, went into one a few nights since, and taking a seat by the stove was soon fust asleep. All efforts to awake him proved ineffectual, until a gentleman, who had aome experience as a pyrotechnist, auggested that a small display of fire works would not only arouse the sleeper but afford some amusement for the company. Accordingly, a wheel was procured which, when lighted revolves with great rapidity, and throws out fire and brimstone in a manner truly astonishing. Attaching this to the wall, the gaa was turned down and the wheel set on The individual for whose benefit the exhibition was given, jumped from his chair as theifgh shot from a gun, but looking around could not realise where he The wheel kept spitting fire, the individual making every effort to find his way out, when to bjj utter astonishment, huge bulla of fire appearing, as he afterward averred, as large as a rain barrel, from a Roman candle completed his fright. lie fell on his kneps and begged for mercy from the gentleman in black, in whose dominions he supposed he was.

This was too much for the crowd, the gas was turned and a party of six or eight discovered, almost in con vnlsions of laughter. The victim broke for the duor snd has never been seen in that section since. Lafayette Journal. The Horrors or Burning Fluid. That indefatigable inquirer into all eorta of myateries, E.

Meriain, states that in the year 1859 he recorded the death of 83 persons, and the serious injury of 106 oth ers, all resulting from the use of burning fluid; while the loss of property by fire from the use of those vile compounds amounts to $144,000.
