Plans of the City of Marion to improve its sewage disposal I plant confirm with renirements of the to health department struck a state Monday night when the City snag Council learned the Chicago office of the Federal Works Administration had withheld aproval of a $27.000 hid for construction of the improvement. The bid offered by the William Lough Sons Construction which was the lowest of three bids received by the council a week ago, was nearly two times the estimated cost and the contractor's hid was due largely to the difference in the prices listed on stone reuired for the filtration beds.

Fred Lough of the contracting firm reported that three quarries he had interviewed declined to furnish the type of rock stipulated by the federal engineers, while two other quarries offered the prescribed stone only at a price much higher than the estimate. One of these quarries is located near Chicago and the other near Kankakee, necessitating a heavy charge for transportation which would not be necessary if stone from southern Illinois quarries could be used. Lough agreed to go to Chicago to confer with federal engineers on a request for liberalization of the estimate. At Monday night's council meeting. John E.

Giles, chairman of the Marion rationing board reported that the Chicago office of the OPA had declined to approve $50 a month rental on the city hall office space occupied by the Marion board. The Council insisted upon $50 as the rental figure, pointing out that the city is now paying $57.50 a month to owners of private buildings for quarters for the police magistrate and for the Marion Water Department which could be 1o- cated in the city hall if the rationing board vacated. Giles agreed to re-submit the $50 figure to the Chicago office, but expressed the opinion that approval would be denied. 'OLD TIMERS' IS FINE PARTY Scout Troop Entertains Former Member Of Troop Two. Only three of the "old timers" were there when the normal attendance for such former "scout. ens" usually totals fifteen or more. But what the meeting lacked in this respect. was made up for by the interesting evens staged by the scouts themselves. The various patrols of the troops took station in various sections of the room and gave a school in scouting, parties of the guests being directed from one group to the other until the subject was covered.

Herb Ashley was presented with a substantial check on behalf of the the Women's Club of the Christian Church. Rev. Barnett made a short and interesting talk on various phases of Scouting, after which refreshments were served by the scouts.
