He claims this is because he will see the world beyond this one, where things assume their perfect forms. And yet this is a powerfully human portrait of Socrates from his student. The Symposium SYMPOSIUM Xenophon (360BC) This other Symposium is notable not for its philosophical rigour, but for the way in which Socrates turns into Dr Johnson.
