She died at 8:30 p.m. May 14, 1998, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Spirit Lake. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Mrs. Birks was born June 19, 1904, in Emden, a daughter of George W.

and Birdie Adele Perry Mowry. She married Jesse B. Birks in August 1927 in Decatur. He died in December 1973. Survivors include one daughter, Sue Ackley, San Ramon, Calif.

and Spirit Lake; one son, Jess M. Birks, Tustin, four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Her parents and two sisters, Ruth Minch and Helen Scafidi, preceded her in death. Mrs. Birks graduated with a BA from Milikin University, Decatur, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Sorority and their alumni chapters in Decatur and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She was a former organist for the Decatur and Cedar Rapids Episcopal churches. In Cedar Rapids, she was a member of the Book Club, the International Relations Club and the Civil War Roundtable Participants. She was a member of the Spirit Lake Episcopal Church. Renee M. Also surviving are two Cleo sons, Thomas Evans (Laurie) Evans, Cooksville; and Robert (Ali) Evans, Stevensville, a sister, Betty Jane Garlock, Ellsworth; and two brothers, Jerry (Vivian) Herman, Salem, and James (Beverly) Herman, Santa Anna, Calif. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Kristina, Katie, Kelli, Kellie, LeeAnn, Beatrice and Josh. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Evans spent her entire life in Cooksville.

She was a member of McLean County Elected Officials, Illinois Township Elected Officials, Ellsworth American Legion Auxiliary No. 1244 and Lady Home Extension, Colfax. She was the township supervisor for Blue Mound Township and was member of Union Church of Cooksville. Henry Gaydosh LINCOLN Henry Gaydosh, 95, of Lincoln died at 6:10 a.m. Saturday (May 30, 1998) at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John United Church of Christ, Lincoln, the Rev. Richard Reinwald officiating. Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Gaydosh was born June 10, 1902, in Hungary, a son of Andrew and Rosa Lengyel Gaydosh. He married Marie H. Ramlow on June 6, 1931, at Vandalia. She died Sept. 22, 1984.

Survivors include a daughter, Norma (Roy) Schoppa, Riverside, and a son, Dan (Laura) Gaydosh, Crystal Lake; and six greatgrandchildren. Other survivors include five grandchildren, Chris (Cathy) Schoppa, Sunnyvale, Joel Schoppa, Redondo Beach, Lauri (Rich) Huntington, Dana Point, Andrea Schoppa, Sunnyvale, and Karen (Russ) Robinson, Bullhead City, and many loving friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Olga and Gizella; and two brothers, Andrew and Rudolph. Mr. Gaydosh's family arrived in the Lincoln area in 1908 where he was a farmer until his retirement in 1974.

He was a life-long member of St. John United Church of Christ, Lincoln, and served in various church positions at the church. He was involved in charitable functions such as the CROP organization which distributes aid overseas. He was one of the first farmers in Logan County to use soil conservation techniques. Mary Griffith DOWNS Mary (Kendall) Griffith, 91, of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of Downs, died May 21, 1998 at the Springmoor Health Center, Raleigh.

There will be a private burial. Visitation will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. June 7, 1998, at the Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Chapel, Granville. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to the Clear Creek Preservation Council, P.O. Box 146, McNabb, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mrs. Griffith was born Feb. 23, 1907, in Downs, a daughter of Rose and Thomas Kendall. She married Walter G. Griffith on March 1, 1930.

Survivors include a son D. Kendall (Susan) Griffith; a daughter, Robin (Til) Glisson; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Griffith; five grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. He married Leona Marie Till on Oct. 6, 1945 at the U.S. Naval Air Station Chapel, DeLand Fla. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Robert (Vicki) Heitzman, Washington; three daughters, Joyce Skelton Thorpe, Bloomington; Peggy (Robert) Meyer, Elmhurst; and Nancy (Jeff) Glass, Rock Island; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers. Mr. Heitzman attended Lincoln College, Lincoln, before enlisting in the U.S. Navy Reserve. While in the Navy he continued his education by attending University of Georgia, University of Tennessee and Martin and Murry State Kentucky.

He was a veteran of World War II, where he served as a Naval Aviator. He was a lifelong farmer in San Jose and Eureka where he practiced soil conservation and land preservation. In 1985 he received the Woodford County SWCD Outstanding Operator award. Mr. Heitzman was a founding member of the Logan County Swine Association, a member of the Angus Association and a lifelong member of the Farm Bureau.

He also served on the San Jose School Board, was a real estate agent, plant manager for Monsanto Ag. Center in Eureka and was a sales representative for Eyegate Media. Mr. Heitzman was an active member of the Eureka Presbyterian Church where he participated in many leadership roles. Earl R.

1 Violations bring 117 citations The second week of a state police enforcement effort resulted in 117 citations for motorists who apparently overlooked a variety of traffic laws in District 6. The Special Traffic Enforcement Program resulted in 80 speeding tickets, 28 seat belt violations and a variety of offenses during the week that ended Friday. Another 53 warning tickets were written to motorists. District 6 troopers cover McLean, Livingston and DeWitt counties. A federal Department of Transportation grant funds increased patrols in areas targeted for a high volume of traffic offenses and accidents.
