COOKS CORNER Make New-Fashioned Quick in many daily foods especially desserts Caramel Apple Crisp is a delicious example of an old-fashioned dessert with a 'Apples were a base staple in pioneer kitchens all across the country Their versatility and delicious flavor made them a frequent ingredient modern twist -r the Savor of caramel apples! a delightful addition to your recipe collection CARAMEL APPLE CRISP cup butter or margarine softened 1 package caramel apple cake mix 2 cans (1 pound 5 ounces each) apple pie filling cup chopped walnuts Heat oven to 350 degrees Cut butter into cake mix (dry mix) with fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs reserve 1 cup Pat remaining mixture lightly into ungreased oblong pan 13x9x2 inches building up -inch edge Spread pie filling over cake mixture to within inch of pan edge Mix walnuts and the reserved 1 cup mixture sprinkle over top Bake 45 to 50 minutes Serve warm If desired top with sweetened whipped cream 12 to 15 servings A The Christmas holiday season provides an ideal time to display ones creative talents as demonstrated by Mrs Andy Straley at the recent monthly meeting of toe Kingsport Jaycettes Mrs Straley an artist in the field of cake decorating showed club members how to decorate a sheet cake for the holidays by linking a chain of miniature Santa figures to wreaths shaped from icing roses SHE ALSO exhibited spun-sugar Christmas tree balls decorated sugar cubes and tiny festive mints all of which were products of the Straley kitchen She donated her decorated cake to the dub to be raffled and Mrs Dick Macbeth was toe lucky winner Mrs Lloyd Edwards Jr president presided over the chairman for the Christmas Shopping Tour outlined plans for the clubs assistance to their Jaycee husbands in the annual project scheduled for Dec 18 MRS BOB SANDERS will head a Jaycette committee to decorate toe Palmer Memorial Center for its patients during toe holidays The club voted to provide a Christmas party for workers at the Kingsport Center of Opportunity Members discussed plans for visiting their adoptive twins at Greene Valley School and Hospital in Greene ville during December and finalized plans for purchasing toe childrens Christmas gifts 1 DURING THE meeting articles of food and clothing for toe needy were assembled by the club and magazines were toe class president John Rasnick on the night of their graduation Each student stood and briefly told of his martial status where he lived and some of the memories of his high school days SHE Brooks Jr of Blacksburg Va and Mrs Addington of Kingsport They also have four grandchildren Mrs IH meeting Toncray George Jaycette Members of the 1949 graduating class of Nickelsville High School met recently at the Holiday Jim for their first class reunion Faculty members attending the reunion were Kyle Smith principal and Miss Naomi Nickels Twenty-nine students wives husbands and guests attended Of the 28 graduates 17 were present The president of the class John 0 Rasnick Abingdon served as master-of-ceremonies The vice president was Nancy Marshall Byington of Nickelsville The Secretary treasurer of the class was Helen Fleenor Mays Members and guests enjoyed a buffet in the banquet room of (he inn i KYLE SMITH complimented toe members of the class for their achievement and success in life Smith is still teaching in toe Scott County school system Miss Naomi Nickels related humorous incidents that occurred during their high school days Miss Nickels is a teacher at Twin Springs High School She traced toe activities of the class beginning in 1945 when they entered high school She spoke of toe class as sailors and Kenneth Clark principal of their freshman year as captain The
