For the first time in the history of American Business Women's Association, May was celebrated throughout the United States by chapters as ABWA Scholarship Month.

One of ABWA's principal aims and purposes is to help elevate women in business through education. Scholastic standing is only one of the points considered in awarding scholarships. Economic need and moral character are also included. Not only do chapters provide scholarships, but members take personal interest in the recepient of the scholarship. Such students are guests at chapter meetings and members keep in touch with them throughout the school term, encouraging them to persist and put forth their best efforts.

These girls are remembered at holidays and birthdays. ABWA's scholarship program is not limited to individual chapters. There is the Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund which each club contributes to and from which Baytown or any chapter may request aid for deserving students for interest- free loans, to be repaid after courses are completed.
