Canada Net .TORONTO (UPI) _ America's top- tennis pair, Jimmy Connors and Chris Evert,.- will make their first Canadian appearance, •• in the §130,000 Canadian .Open. Championships .beginning Monday at the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club. Heading this season's money winning charts with more than ; $135,000 .apiece, the soon to be married Wimbeldon champions have been named tournament favorites, but the 21^year-old Connors faces a much tougher route to the men's title. Not Connors' Favorite One of' the strongest clay court fields of the year has been assembled for the seven day tournament and thtt slower, clay-type surfaces are not Connors' favorite. Second seed in the mens singles, where $15,000 goes to the winner, is flying Dutchman Tom Okker, defending champion and runner-up in 1971. Seeded behind Okker in order are: Hie Nastase of Romania, the 1972 winner: Swedish skyrocket Bjorn Borg; Manuel Orante's of Spain; the red hot Argentinian Guillermo Vilas, who has won three of nis last four tournament finals; Eddy Dibbs of tne U.S., and Chilean Jaime Filloi. World Team Tennis, which has cost the Canadian Open such male stass as Ken Rosewall, John .Newcombe and Tony Roach, has especially depleted the women's field, where 'top prize is §6,000. Top Four Missing Missing because o£ WTT commitments are Billy Jean King, Rosie Casals, Virginia Wade and 1073 • winner Yvonne Goolagong —four of the world's top six-ranked women players. Miss Evert and Margaret Court, who is pregnant and temporarily out of competition, are the other two. Seeded two in women's play is Julie Heldman of the U.S., followed by Chris' sister'Jeanne and Japan's Kazuko Sawamat- su. The Canadian Open also marks the retorn to the competitive tennis arena of three-time Wimbledon and ioor time j U.S. Open champion Maria Bueno o£ Brazil. Now 34, Miss-.
