Chamber of Commerce have en dorsed a flood control bill penf ing in Congress which includes a con troversial proposal to build a dam across the Sacramento river at Table Mountain the chamber an nounced today Construction of the dam isop posed by Shasta county groups In a letter to Glenn Newton pres ident of the Redding Chambe of Commerce James Mussatti gener al manager of the state chamber said: view of the fact that the omnibus flood control bill provides only for the authorization of pro jects for postwar construction and does not make appropriations the committees fell that there is sjill opportunity for those who oppose the Table Mountain proposal to have their facts and views pre sented to the army engineers aYid to Congress before any appropri ation is made for the organization if we failed at this time to support this bill' Local Board Given New Authority WASHINGTON June 2 President Roosevelt today said the government is considering the pos sibility of using unnecded army camps to house foreign refugees in this country for the duration of the war When he said earlier this week that he favored the idea of 'as temporary havens for refugees the president explained to his news conference today he did not mean all of the refugees should come to this country or all go to other countries that the rule of common sense would apply He said for example that he thought it would not be common sense to bring refugees over a long ocean haul to this country when they could be placed in other countries more conveniently and with less transportation involved The president said he discussed the matter yesterday with Secre tary of Treasury Henry Morgen thau jr and John Pehle di rector of the war refugee board Pehle he said is studying the pos sibility of taking over one un needed army camp in this country where refugees might be housed He indicated that if this scheme were adopted it might be extended to other camps The president made clear that his idea was for the refugees to return to their own countries aft er the war although they would be admitted to this country during the war regardless of quotas or vias SUSANVILLE Calif June 2 (Special) Seventy five Lassen young men and women received di plomas as graduating exercises at Memorial hall today June 2nd The 68 high school and seven Junior College graduates participated in the program which featured ad dresses by graduates class officers and faculty members The exercises included a proces sional played by the high school band when the 75 gowned gradu ates entered the hall and the Long Term Credit to Russ After War BERKELEY Cal June 2 The California state wage board of the War ood Administration today announced cancellation of an exemption from wage stabiliza tion regulations which formerly permitted employers of seasonal farm workers to increase wages for a maximum of 60 days a year Marvin Jones War ood Ad ministrator told the local board they had been delegated authority to grant or deny approval of in creases or decreases in pay on spe cific applications during critical harvest periods Roland Ballou executive of ficer of the board said employers who have increased farm workers wages to above $2400 a year must submit applications for the indi vidual affected to the board ail ure to file such applications will be punishable as violations of the national wage
