The herd of 100 includes two bulls, "Crombleyback Eldorado", Ihe senior bull, and "Lourado Hoyal Archer", the junior sire which was purchased quite recently for $4,600 near Toronto, Canada, by Siuder. The herd has 20 breeding cows which were imported from Scotland by Siuder who purchased them in 1949 while on a trip to Scotland. The shorthorn herd is handled by Ben's son. Hate, who with his three brothers, Paul, Ben Jr. and Mark, work in partnership with their father on 900 acres of the 1,220 acres owned in Prairie township of Koscuth county and Hancock county just southeast of Wesley. The Studers generally plant about 350 acres of corn, 150 acres of soybeans, 150 acres of oats, with the balance being in hay and pasture on a rotation basis. Of special interest to livestock breeders is the double usage the Sluders get out of the five silos en the farms. In the early summer part of the silos are filled with chopped oats and hay silage. This is fed out in later summer and they arc refilled in the fall with cane and corn silage for winter breeding. In addition to this the animals which are fed for sale or for show are given a grain ration. While the Scotch shorthorns are the oldest line bred by Siuder, he has a large herd of Aberdeen Angus of which quite a number have been imported. Mr Studer is one of the largest purebred livestock raisers in this area, and is known in international circles. That's a poor showing, isn't it? It's wise to learn to identify meat cuts. Why not choose a new one every time you go to your market? For help in meat buying, ask your meat retailer for ideas. Also, it's a wise buyer who watches for meat specials. Today, beef is coming to market in plentiful supply. There are more than thirty different cuts of beef alone from which you have to choose. A Salute To The Beef Raisers of Kossuth County Where There Is Always BETTER BEEF! • Dale Yungeberg AUCTIONEER NIGHT SALES EACH FRIDAY AT 7:30 ALGONA SALE BARN One of the two herd bulls is this prize specimen pictured above. The junior sire, named "Lourado Royal Archer", was recently purchased for $4,600 by Siuder in Canada. Nate and his father are pictured with the animal. One of the highest honors awarded Siuder was the naming of his bull, "Calrossie Archer", grand champion at the world's fair held in San Francisco a number of years ago. Ben and his four sons get their greatest reward in purebred work when they see calf club and young farmer buyers of their seed stock enter county and state fairs and walk off with winner ribbons. Barbecued Cubed Beef Steaks Cubed beef steaks are definitely the busy homemaker's friend. Whenever there's a call for a quick dinner these beef steaks fill the bill. For a change, barbecue them. To do this, first dredge the steaks with seaosned flour and brown them on both sides. Add chopped onion and brown lightly. Then add a ready-prepared or your own barbecue sauce. Cover and cook slowly for about thirty minutes.
