30 Nasbut Telatripii, . October 6. 1976 Nielsen Ratings Listed By JOAN HANAUEK NEW YORK ( U P D - A B C , once the Cinderella of the networks, is having a ball these days, what with Barbara Waiters, Fonzi and the top of the Nielsen ratings. ' In. an effort to keep "it all going, -the network is putting on an all-star production of "The Great Houdinis" on Oct. 8. 9-11 p.m.. Eastern time. ·The t h r e e - c i t y N i e l s e n "overnight" figures on "The ABC Evening News with Harry Reasoner and Barbara Walters" made nice listening for network executives. Miss Walters and Company won sweepingly in all three cities -- New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. While these are not national figures, they are important for the network that has always come in third in the evening news sweepstakes. The national Nielsen figures for the second week of the new television season, Oct. 4-11, also put ABC on.top of the list! with NBC second and CBS - long accustomed to being No. 1 -- relegated to third place for the second week in a row. ;0f the season's new shows, o n l y A B C ' s " C h a r l i e ' s Angels" and "Rich Man, Poor Man" made the top ten on the list, and "Rich Man" got its start last season in miniseries' form. , The bottom of the Nielsen list of 65 shows provides a more telling insight into how the new programs are faring. Eleven of the last 15 are new entries. Starting from the bottom up, they are "Spencer's Pilots," "COS," "Executive. Suite." "Holmes and YoYo," ' - ' M r . T a n d T i n a , " "Delvecchio," "The Quest." "All's Fair," "Serpico," "Gemini M a n " and "Ball Four." -To consolidate its position, ABC has put together an intriguing cast for its "Great H o u d i n i s " F r i d a y ' n i g h t movie. It includes Paul Mjchael Glaser as Houdini (Starsky in "Starsky 'and Hutch"-), Sally Struthers (.Gloria in " A l l In The Family") plays his wife, and Ruth Gordon is amusing but miscast as his awful Jewish mother. Others in the case include Vivian -VancefAndrienne Barbeau. Bill Bixby, Jack Carter, Peter Cushing, Nina Foch, Wilfred Hyde White, Maureen O'Sullivan and Clive Revill. The two-hour production has a split personality, opening like a road company ''Abie's Irish Rose" as Jewish Harry Houdini, born Erich W e i s s , t a k e s a R o m a n Catholic bride to much family dismay. . But the story takes an eerie and sinister twist after the successful magician's mother dies aTid his obsessive love for her leads to a n e r v o u s breakdown and bizarre encounters with spiritualism. The top 10 network television programs for the week ending Oct. 10. according to the A.C. Nielsen Co., were: 1: "Happy Days;" 2: "Lav e r n e a n d S h i r l e y ; " 3: "Dawn: Portrait of a Teen- Age Runaway" (NBC Monday movie): 4: "Earthquake Part H" (NBC Big E v e n t ) ; 5: "Bionic Woman;" 6: ( t i e ) "Charlie's Angels" and "All In The Family;" 8: "Rich Man, Poor Man:" 9: "The Way We Were" (ABC Sunday movie); 10: "Baretta." · Savescriptions · save you money 3 Whitney Pharmacies QUALITY and BURQUE Jewelers Go Together DIAMONDS JEWELRY WATCHES at 89 W.
