Wiley as your Ijricl Sam' chief of th pure food department "B.eans are protein," begins the syllogism given forth by Dr. Doolittle at Washington yesterday. "Protein la Therefore beans are strength. I don't mean canned beans. but home baked beans.

They're the best substitute for meat and one should not eat meat anyway, more than once a day. ''Remember, please, that I am not advising a vegetarian diet ae the best and only diet I'm "tlking merely about substitutes for meat As a meat substitute th glorious bean sit enthroned in solitary glory. But there are other good substitutes of high protein value such as peas, all kinds or nuts, cheese and milk. Sugar is helpful, also, to physical strength. "Oatmeal contains some fat but breakfast foods at a general thing merely are starchy.

If fish were not considered about the same as meat I would favor fish as a meat substitute. But fish prices usually climb to the high spots whenever meat climbs. Therefore, beans, beans, beans."
