RIDAY OCTOBER 17 1947 NEVADA STATE JOURNAL RENO NEVADA Telephone 7464 SocieturdClubs Leola McDonald Society Editor Elderberry Club Has Recent Meeting Elderberry Club members en joyed a delightful luncheon and social meeting at the home of Mrs William Springer on Maple St Assisting as co hostesses were Mrs Harriet Robinson and Miss elice Cohn Nearly all of the members ap peared in costumes of years ago Mrs Maggie ulstone wearing a hobble skirt Mrs Alice Potter choosing a white lace ensemble and Mrs Lizzie Belz wearing a linen coat she wore on her honeymoon in 1879 All of the clothes were authentic period pieces and the group presented a charming pic ture Luncheon was served from a table covered with a lace cloth and centered with an old fashioned ar rangement of bright asters avors were little baskets of candy' Mrs Martha Moore presided during the business meeting after which the group enjoyed a pleas ant social hour Miss elice Cohn told of her recent vacation trip to El Paso Texas during which she visited many national parks and other points of interest Mrs Emma LaRue recited a poem and Mrs Ella Dixon sang several hu morous songs Guests of the club were Mr and Mrs A Kerr Mrs parents Mesdames William A Ed wards and Benjamin Parker and Miss ece Cohn Little Miss Jean Ross al5o attended and assisted in serving Members present were Mes dames Harriet Robinson Martha Moore Ella Dixon Emma Brown Evelyn Miller Maggie ulstone Elizabeth Kirkley Ellen Ross Emma LaRue Estella ulton El izabeth Belz Vern Wedekind Margaret Hollman Alice Potter and Miss lorence Belz Only two DAR Enjoys Talk by Judge Chief Justice Mil ton Badt of the Nevada supreme court was guest speaker at the regular monthly meeting Wednesday of Nevada Sagebrush Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution A large number of members and their guests were in attend ance and enjoyed Justice informative address and the hos pitality of their hostess Mrs Thad Holcomb Assisting Mrs Holcomb in after noon was Msgr John Smith who gave a most entertaining and enlightening talk Mrs Ben er rari reported qji the recent dean ery meeting Refreshments were served from tables decorated in an autumn motif with clever arrangements of bright autumn leaves and shiny red apples providing colorful and attractive setting Hostesses were Mesdames Bruce Clogston Alfred Lemmon Don Moses A Sarazin and Ottini Present for the meeting were Coming Events riday Pioneer Circle of the ederated church will meet at 2:30 at the home of Mrs ulstone and Mrs Edgar Knudson 1317 North Virginia Street Mrs Ray mond Briggs will preside Saturday Reno Unity Center will hold a cooked food sale from 10 a to 3 at Ring Lee grocery cor ner of Liberty and Granite Sts Proceeds will go towards the Cen ters building fund Sunday Renoettes will hold an old fash ioried dancing party at 8 in Moana Hall for members of the Junior Chamber of Commerce their wives and girl friends Cos tume party Exchangettes Hold Clever Style Show ollowing their regular dinner meeting last Wednesday at the Twentieth Century Club home members of the Exchangettes and their guests enjoyed a display of smart clothes for the wear Dinner was served from tables decorated in an autumn motif with miniature hats and trees providing a clever decorative accent for the occasion The hats and trees the work of Mrs Ella Edwards During the style show Mrs Smith acted as commentator and models were club members Mes dames A Johannes A Stewart Puryear A Herman A Scheuller and Deitz They displayed smart wearing apparel ranging from casual sports wear to lingerie complete with all types of appropriate accessories Clothes modelled for the occasion were selected by the Joseph Magnin store A background and standards for the show were provided by Glenn Turner More than a hundred persons at tended the dinner and style display which was described as a very suc cessful affair 1 Three Members Hold Meeting at Babcock Building Three Club met Wednesday evening at the Babcock Auditori um with Mesdames John Solaro Joe Rice Bruce Nightingale and Edwin Hoover as hostesses all flowers were used as dec orations and a motif was followed Dessert A delightful evening of out standing musical and dancing events with the theme of in Historical and Musical Set was presented to seventy members and guests of the Reper toire Club last Monday evening at the Babcock Building Arranging the clever affair were Rudolph Herz and Mrs Headley co chairmen Opening the program was ap propriate singing of Long by Mrs Ruth Ceander Mrs Joyce Williams Mr Robert Herz and Mr A Tinkham An old fashioned waltz was then pre sented by Miss loria Mapes and Mr Rondell Shaw after which Mr and Mrs Nick Vinci played sev eral banjo duets Mrs Robert Madison gave humorous readings from the works of Mark Twain Mr Herz then sang several 'oldtime favorites impersonating Richard Jose who was one of early singing idols Mrs Headley followed the songs with two poems on a mining theme from the collection written by Weave of Nevada in 1879 Mrs Ceander impersonating the famous soprano Emma Ne vada offered the next two selec tions A series of square dances and quadrilles performed by Mr and Mrs Harris Hale Mr and Mrs A Springer Mr and Mrs I Hall Miss Marian Morse and Mr George Hale climaxed the evening Mr Tom Schwarer acted as dance caller and Mr Tony Pe cetti provided the music During the evening Mrs Post was accompanist for the so loists and Mrs Carl Gottschalck was commentator During a brief business' meeting conducted by Mrs Benjamin Parker plans to formulate an opera appreciation group were an nounced A choral group to be directed by Mr Wesley Summer field was also organized and weekly rehearsals planned The group hopes to prepare a concert by the holiday season HERE ROM SWEDEN Miss Birgitta Lofmark of Stock holm Sweden is visiting at the home of Mr and Mrs Thomas Buckman meeting of the Twentieth Century Club was feat ured by an outstanding book re view given in the clever style of Mrs Walter Clark Mrs Clark reviewed Pat in an entertaining atid informative manner which was much enjoyed by club members Mrs Charles Mapes presided during the business session Mrs Taylor current events chair man then introduced Mrs Leon Mack state chairman of the ed erated Clubs who report ed on the recent national conven tion of the federation in New York City Mrs Mack attended the con vention as delegate from Nevada ollowing the meeting and pro gram tea was served in the lounge by Mrs John I Hickey and her committee on hospitality lower arrangements in the lounge and on the tables were outstandingly lovely featuring a profusion of flowers in the traditional fall col ors gold orange and bronze Black and orange tapers accented the flowers which were arranged by Mrs Hickey Mrs Preece and Mrs Burt Rice Presiding at the tea tables were Mesdames Landis Ira Seitz Charles Priest and Phillip Work Members present were: Airhart Adams Bay A Beisel LeRoy Booth Bowen Bulmer Carl Borchgrevink Cameron Cameron Louis Capurro Sr Case Ralph Casey Clark Coffin Stephen Com er Cronin John' Davidson Davis?
