Leslie Mitchell, first face of television, dies By HARVEY LEE Television Staff TESLIE MITCHELL, the pioneer broadL caster who was hailed as the "Adonis of television" after his historic appearance in 1936 as the BBC's first on-screen announcer, has died at the age of 80 in a London Hospital after a long illness.
