by George A Hanson visitor here from Elk Grove Calif Mr Hanson said he was playing slot machines Wednesday when someone took the wallet from his pocket The wallet contained $150 in cash personal papers and a Ha waiian dollar bill signed with 50 names Action Is Deferred On Two Two Are Turned Down force It was believed that at one time in his life Mr Yee had been involved in a narcotics case yesterday Reno police were notified James Thomas Steele 35 former Long Beach Calif resident is in custody at Glendale He is charged with burglarizing Cafe 703 Virginia St May 15 and taking approximately $100 from slot ma chines Police here sentout a search for Steele after fingerprints found at the burglary scene matched his In custody at San rancisco is Robert Catlin who is believed to have stolen $597 worth of cloth ing from a parked automobile here May 23 Police said that the cloth ing belonging to Mack Aaronson of Los Angeles has been recovered and that Catlin has admitted the inquired to day into the financial interests held by various persons in the Hotel Last rontier on the Las Vegas Strip The commission questioned Jake fcozloff Milton Stevens and Mur ray Randolph closely about agree ments they may have had with per sons who had loaned them money for operation of the hotel andits casino or who held options to pur chase interests Kozloff and Randolph both as sured the commission that they had repaid all such loans Kozloff and Randolph said they very anxious that Milton Stevens wealthy Los Angeles water heater manufacturer be granted his long pending brothers had been watch ing a street excavation project near their home and were crossing the street when the accicfcnt occurred An automobile halted for the two boys the driver failing to see Linda four girls got Into trouble during June Of these 28 were first offenders and 28 were charged with minor infractions of the law There 129 cases in volving youngsters reported to po lice last month During June of 1953 the juvenile cases numbered 158 and 54 young sters were taken into custody So far this year 129 cases is the lowest number of juvenile difficulties on record for a single month The number of arrests has varied by month from 33 to 53 Iarge majority of the juveniles were in lheir middle teens police said Only one youngster in trouble was 12 three wore 13 three 14 four 15 twelve 16 ten 17 and one 18 Eighteen of the 31 were from out of town police noted Offenses listed included nine traffic violations four petty lar cenies one malicious mischief 13 runaways one unclassified misde meanor three burglaries and three automobile thefts Three young sters were second offenders two were in custody for a third time and one was arrested for more than the seventh time Twenty five cases any month this yeaiv However they were still below the total for June of 1953 and traffic safety record is still better for the first six months of 1954 than it was for the same period last year To date this year there have been '398 accidents 28 injuries and two fatalities In the first six months of 1953 there had been 437 accidents 51 injuries and two deaths Last fatality was a pe destrian The earlier death this year in ebruary resulted from a single car accident a passenger having been fatally injured as the vehicle overturned There were 81 driver violations resulting from the 72 accidents in Reno last month ailure to grant right of way speeding and drunken driving were listed as the most pre valent accident causes Of the 136 drivers involved in crashes 88 were Reno residents The accidents involved 116 passenger cars 12 trucks seven taxicabs and one motorscooter Seventy six of the 136 drivers were doing less than 20 miles an hour when the crash occurred The hours when the largest num ber of accidents happened were those from 2 to 4 pm and the most accidents occurred on Wednesdays Safest hours with no crashes reported at all were from midnight to 1 am and 3 to 4 pm Suspects Held In California Police at Berkeley Calif are holding a suspect in the murder here last March of elderly Lee Yee alias Lee Dodd The suspect is identified as Charles Julius Bengston 21 of Rock Island Ill who was taken into custody at Berkeley when police found him wandering the streets in a dazed con dition Bengston they told Reno officers kept repeating that he had strangled a Chinese named at Reno He is quoted as saying was stran 4 gled while he sat in his automonue a 1949 Buick and that Bengston had done the strangling with his hands Time of the alleged slaying Bengston reportedly confessed was in May and followed an argu ment about narcotics Certain aspects of alleged confession are at variance with the facts pertaining to the Lee Yee case police noted How ever 40 to 60 acres near this Lake Tahoe resort town last night a forest service official said The ranger station at Truckee said the information was relayed to them by radio from the fire scene where mopping up op erations will continue through Sun day The ranger station said no further information was given to them about the boy Henry Toccalini forest service dispatcher said the fire broke out Accidents In June Come Near to Setting New Monthly Record for 1954 One of Two ires In Reno Results In Serious Damage To Home at 415 Arroyo St Reno' police had plenty to do last month They arrested 625 574 men and 51 women during June which was about average for this time of year Twenty four of the 625 were taken into custody for seri ous crimesincluding eight burglary cases seven of larceny and nine of automobile theft Among the less serious offenders the drunks and vag rants almost tied for first place the former numbering 246 4 and lhe latter 244 A breakdown of age groups for the June arrestees revealed that 13 of the serious offenders were 18 years of age or younger Three of these youngsters were boys un der 15 two of whom were charged with burglary and one with lar ceny The largest JjnglpJ age gwup among the" men years of age and older There were 139 of them The largest age group of women arrested was from 25 to 40 years The police bureau of identification was kept busy as usual during June ingerprints were taken from 1042 persons in cluding prisoners and applicants ifteen burglary scenes and one car theft were processed for fin gerprints Twenty four traffic ac
