last night shaded the visit ing Chico State freshman team 40 38 to sweep their two game series with the Kittens The game was rough most of the way and again as riday night when the Nevadans won by 63 62 the times 26 seconds and two seconds left to play were all important The 26 second mark was a big factor in the win for the Nevada yearlings for at that point with the score reading 38 37 for the visiting Chicoans hustling Mose Mastelotto was called on a techni cality charged with a technical foul and ejected from the game Guard George Nelson of allon who last night and again tonight appeared in both the rosh and var sity games took free toss and plunked the ball through the rim to knot the count With possession of the mall the Nevada rosh took their time in setting up a shot inally guard George Ball from Las Vegas dead eyed Ms only goal of the night from about 25 feet out on the left side of the court The goal put Nevada ahead by 40 38 with two seconds left and the Chico reshmen were not able to get the ball away in a further attempt at knotting the score The loss for the visitors stemmed from a deep freeze tactic they put into use with five minutes of play remaining At that time the Kittens held a slim four point advantage 38 34 The resulting slow down in the game netted the visitors a total of only four points in the final session while Coach Hugh Nevadans were getting 13 to overcome a seven point deficit Both squads were slow starting the scoring with three minutes even gone in the opening period be fore Chico Don Laffin hit a free throw for a 1 0 lead ifteen seconds later Glen Piretto hit from the field for Nevada and the race was or a time the game fol lowed the pat tern of game when the count never varied by more than three or four points but the Kittens pulled out to an 11 8 lead at the end of the quarter Laffin Top Man During that session Laffin had potted seven points for the Chi coans He finished with 17 for game honors The second period was an exact copy of the first for scoring and the halftime count was 22 16 Chico rosh Things picked up a in the third which closed at 34 27 for the visitors Three minutes into the final stanza the freeze went on and the eventual end started when George Nelson who hit for 16 points ri day suddenly came to life and hit two quick goals His third of the period brought the count to 38 37 with 1:15 remaining Nelson
