Blue Hose Saturday afternoon at Sirrine Stadium Glenn a junior tailback who rushed 18 times for 261 yards and three touchdowns did more than his part in the ground-gulping Paladin running attack His total was a personal school and conference single game mark and nearly matched the entire PC output His average of 145 yards per carry is proof of the Blue Hose defense's problem with giving up the tong run Four times Paladin runners broke for gains of 40 yards or more Three of those tong jaunts were by Glenn JUST EXECUTED well a modest Glenn said after the game had ft WUlie Mason meets Kevin Morgan of daring first-half action The Pnlndins downed PC 28 down circus catch by little Randy Morris The 5-8 flanker sent his frame flying as high as he could to snare the Spence toss and then dragged a pair ot Paladin defenders down to the two yard line to complete the 24-yard play Willie Mason went over from there and Chuck Bishop's kick made the score 14-7 THEN GLENN sawed the backbreaker After three carries up the middle had netted 14 yards for Sheridan's squad Glenn took a pitch from Randy Sorrells scooted around the left side and cut back behind some downfield blocking for a 65-yard score Sheridan decided to rest Glenn on the next series and his replacement Brothel Cole played the understudy role well On his second attempt of the series Cole swept 67 yards to paydirt for the game's final score you go a whole year without that many )8 Sheridan commented get that kind of runs your offensive line has to be doing the job Plus the receivers down-field have to be knocking some people down Glenn obviously had a great game but the blockers deserve a lot of the credit Also our defense did a good job of stopping them in the first half when our offense wasn't doing as Spence found plenty of leaks in the Paladin defense throwing for 152 yards on 13 of 24 passes But Furman always found ways to keep Spence and company out of the end zone whether by interception fumble re-coveiy or tough line play on fourth and short yardage doubt our biggest problem was the big Gault observed beat ourselves That's the most long runs had against me since I one-on-one moves and I think I can beat most people in that The 5-11 200-pounder backed up that statement early in the game as he swept wide right on the fifth Paladin offensive play for a 63-yard score Tim Tanguay booted the PAT to give Furman an early 7-0 lead Glenn and his teammates continued to chew up ground in the first half but a variety of mistakes kept them off the scoreboard A fumble stopped one march and passes dropped or caught out of bounds ended two others But Coach Dick Sheridan's team now 1-1 came storming out in the second half With Glenn doing all the running on gains of 14 eight 45 and five yards Furman took just 1:36 to put another tally on the board CALLY GAULT'S Blue Hose- now 0-2 refused to quit Spence led a spectacular 77-yard drive which included two fourth down conversions The oily problem was the Blue Hose couldn't get the ball in the end zone On fourth and goal at the one Spence never got the handle on the center snap and Furman's Billy Hall recovered Undaunted PC went 55 yards in eight plays the nezt time it had the ball to pull within a touchdown The key to the drive was a fourth" Menswear Summer SALE Reductions '3 PRICK SMART GUYS INVEST IN yards in the drive and he sprinted the final 35 on a keeper Shrader's sharp cut on the scoring run left several Appalachian defenders gaping and he pulled away from a couple of would-be tacklers to score in a romp A couple of other Citadel threats died when Emmer Chavez missed field goal attempts from 38 and 43 yards In the final analysis the Bulldogs were never able to recover Iron a woeful first half in which Appalachian's 60-yard drive capped by Derek Jenkins' three-yard ran was the only score At the end the rival coaches lauded each other's squads was a good football offered Baker first half we did not come off the baU that well We had poor field position and that kept us from doing a lot of things we wanted to do When we had better field position we moved the football was
