Theatres, Cinemas---Page 25 Television Office squaw battles for her chief By SYLVIA CLAYTON THERE are some secretaries who see the office as a wigwam and fight for their chief like a loyal squaw. The heroine of last night's play, Post Mortem (B C-2) battled against a hostile world, using a telephone instead of a tomahawk.

Only one living character was visible in this first drama of new one- series, Centre Play." She was Helen Ansty, personal assistant to a successful financier, who was, she thought, a taking a day off. In fact he had collapsed and died. There was a piquant contrast between the highly sophisticated gadgetry, the battery of tape recorders and telex machines at the secretary's disposal and the tribal quality of her devotion. With an characteristic of Brian work, the emphasis, play preached a moral message. Helen became so absorbed in her boss's dubious trade of speculating in property and shares that she ignored human values.

She was too busy to respond to an appeal from the hospital where mother lay dying, or to consider the feelings the man who wanted to marry her. But perhaps because the choice between virtue and mammon was so starkly presented, her callousness seemed less striking than her ability to make a profit of £2 million in an afternoon. The play was sustained bv an admirable performance from Judy Parfft as Helen. She gave the secretary a tense composure that remained marvellously cool in a middle-class English way, while oil sheikhs, crusading journalists. anxious merchant bankers and corrupt planning officers involved her in a cascade of crises.

EMBERS of the Transport and General Workers' Union at the Ford tractor plant at Basildon, Essex, have sent a letter to MPs saying that the official union has lost control there and asking for an inquiry into premeditated attacks by political extremists 99 which have produced constant disruption and tension." These activities by "political extremists" are hardly, news by Nor is constant disruption and tension" they produce. They are doing this or at any, rate trying to do it in every industry and, for that matter, every field of activity in this country. What is news is that "ordinary trades unionists should venture to bring this matter to the attention of Members of Parliament. Some of these MPs are, of course, themselves political extremists," who are doing their best for the cause of disruption and tension in their own way.
