Journal-Standard, Friday, June 9, 1972 Page 5 Guild Has Installation, Luncheon The Brick Room of Freeport Country Club was the scene of the luncheon meeting and Installation of officers of Junior Women's Guild Wednesday afternoon. New officers are Mrs. C. H. Wells, president; Mrs.

Gerald McElroy, vice president; Mrs. Robert Dunbar, recording secretary; Mrs. Robert Haddad, treasurer; and Mrs. David White, corresponding secretary. Outgoing president, Mrs.

Thomas Willging, was given a ceramic sugar and creamer appreciation gift. Other outgoing officers received a red carnation. Chicken salad on pineapple boats, molded gelatin, orange and cinnamon rolls, coffee and peppermint stick ice cream were served. Background music was provided by the Freeport Senior High School Chamber Ensemble, under the direction of Mr. Myron McLain.

Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. Richard Schone and Mrs. Clarence Davenport, cochairmen, who were assisted by members of their committee. Golden Anniversary The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs.

Harold Standring, 815 E. Iroquois was celebrated at a family dinner at the home of their son-in- law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Glennen Kaiser of Florence Station. Among the guests was Mrs.

Standring's mother, Mrs. Robert Lee, who will soon be 90 years old. The group included five generations. A tiered wedding cake, made by Mrs. Robert Pals, was the focal point of the decorations.

Helen L. Lee and Harold A. Standring were married June 3,1922, by the Rev. Charles Briggs in the parsonage of the First Methodist Church in Freeport. Besides their daughter, Mrs.

Glennen (Kathryn) Kaiser, they have a son, William of Rockford, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Prenuptial Parties Parties honoring Miss Patricia Ne- venhoven have been given recently, as a prelude to her wedding this Saturday to Jon Kirkpatrick. They will exchange vows in the Baileyville Reformed Church. A shower by mail was given by her maid of honor, Miss Nancy Noggle of Engagements Hartman-Coates Mr. and Mrs.

George Hartman, Freeport Route 4, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Mary, to Joseph Coates. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Coates, 633 W. Douglas St.

The bride-elect attended Freeport High School and is employed by Micro Switch. Her fiance was graduated from Dakota High School and is employed by Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. The couple will be married at St. Mary's Catholic Church on June 23. Weddings Reifsteck-Boeke Mr.

and Mrs. LaVerne Boeke of Lena announce the marriage of their daughter, Margaret, to Edward A. Reifsteck. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.

Edward 0. Reifsteck of Hanover. The couple was married May 26 in Galena. Notes of the Day A Northern Illinois University grad- uate student from Freeport, William Ward, will be the copy editor of the college newspaper, the Northern Star, this summer. Miss Andrea C.

DeFrane, 510 E. Center has been named to the spring dean's list at the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa. Scott Roen, son of Mrs. Paul Roberts, 1771 S. Demeter Drive, was awarded a gold microphone for out- standjng performance in the University of Northern Iowa Jazz Band I's performance at the American College Jazz Festival in Washington, D.C.

Roen, a trombonist, was awarded the microphone by band leader Stan Kenton. Muskegon, Mich, College friends of the bride-elect mailed her a gift each day for a week. Mrs. Beth Breed and Mrs. Georgia Hastings, teachers at Taylor Park School, where Miss Nevenhoven is also a teacher, honored her with a miscellaneous shower at the home of Mrs.

Margaret Oltmann, 1515 W. Lincoln Blvd. The bride-elect was also honored at a miscellaneous shower by Miss LaVonne Wichman of Baileyville. Bridal games were played and refreshments were served. Baby Shower Mrs.

Douglas Alberts was the guest of honor at a baby shower given by Miss Dee Henkel at 211 Ave. Lincoln Mobile Park. Yellow and white colors were used for decorations with a yellow teddy bear as the centerpiece. Cake, punch and coffee were served to the guests. Rehearsal Dinner A party was given in the Barry- Jones Room of the Naval Station Officers Club in Boston, for members of the Everts-Meyer bridal party and the families of the bride and groom, following the rehearsal for the wedding which took place Sunday in Harvard Memorial Church in Cambridge.

Lt. Cmdr. and Mrs. Paul J. Everts of Jacksonville, were hosts for the event, although Lt.

Cmdr. Everts was unable to be present as he is a chaplain aboard the USS Saratoga, stationed off Vietnam. The bride is the former Janet Mey- er, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry H.

Meyer 1517 W. Demeter Drive. The bridegroom is Peter L. Everts. Roast beef dinners were served to 28 guests.

The tables were decorated with arrangements of red and blue burlap flowers set in clusters of white net, made by the bridegroom's mother. Flowers of burlap yarn were attached to the candleholders. Special guests were grandparents of the bridal couple: Mr. and Mrs. Oliver B.

Ames of Waretown, N.J.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman P. Everts of Boynton Beach, and Mr. and Mrs.

Clinton R. Owens of Erieville, N.Y. Quota Club Plans The birthday anniversary of Quota Club of Freeport was planned at the monthly business luncheon Wednesday at the YWCA. There were 15 members present. The anniversary will be celebrated on June 21, with Mrs.

Gene Burke as chairman of the event. Mrs. Harry Brewster, president, gave a report on the Presidents Council meeting in Minneapolis, which she attended in May. Members voted to endorse Miss Bernice Spratler for lieutenant governor of the 22nd district. Mrs.

Brewster announced the following committee chairmen for 1972-73: Mrs. Michael Balles, hostess and calling; Mrs. Melvin Fetscher, budget; Mrs. Richard Nichol, publicity; Mrs. H.R.

Stees, special events; Mrs. Glen Kunkle, service; Mrs. William Cox, ways and means; Mrs. Gerald Bender, program; Miss Spratler, membership; Mrs. Doris Toelle, bylaws and resolutions; and Mrs.

William Morrow, floral. Plans for a fall tea were discussed. Plan June Nuptials Miss Sharon Lorraine Downs and Preston James Sarles Jr. will be married June 25. Their engagement and forthcoming marriage is announced by Miss Downs' parents, Mr.

and Mrs. Harlan Downs of Lanark. Mr. Sarles is the son of Mr. and Mrs.

Preston James Sarles 833 S. Float Ave. The bride-to-be is a graduate of Lanark High School, Highland Community College and Northern Illinois University. She is a special education teacher at Stockton. Her fiance is a graduate of Freeport High School and Lincoln Barber College at East Moline.

He is a veteran of three years Navy service and spent a year in Vietnam. He is employed by Gloden's Barber and Hairstyling Shop. Terry Bender. Mrs. Bender is the former Rae Ann Thruman. She was married Monday in Madison, Wis. Mrs.

Richard Schwartz and Mrs. Ray LeBaron were cohostesses for the party, which was given in the Schwartz home, 510 E. Jefferson St. A lemon-lime dessert was served with coffee, nuts and mints. Bridal games were played and gifts were opened.

Out-of-town guests were present from Elizabeth, Pecatonica and Stoughton, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. Bender will be honored at a reception Saturday afternoon from 2 to 4 o'clock in the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Richard Thruman of rural Stoughton. Announcements The geological tour of Krape Park, which will be sponsored by the Stephenson County Audubon Society, will begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The time was incorrectly reported as 2 p.m. to The Journal-Standard Thursday.
