LAWRENCE Kan UH Oklahoma rebpunded sharply in a bid to regain its national football prestige by bouncing the out-manned Kansas Jay hawks 43-0 in a Big Eight game played before 30000 fans here Saturday The Sooner who experienced a rare defeat 15-14 by Texas last week sent five different players on scoring jaunts for their 66th consecutive conference game without defeat Two ties have been charged against them in that string John Prllow a blaring fast 161-pound senior who gained fame as a member of the sprint medley relay team put the finishing touches to the Jayhawks with a 38-yard touchdown run on a punt return and a 78-yard scoring trip on a pass interception Actually feats were no more than added attraction for the Sooners dumped out of the top ten into 11th place in the national Associated Press ratings last week Oklahoma scored twice in the second quarter once in the third and three tildes in the fourth Oklahoma looked anything but a champion in the first period as it opened its campaign for an 11th consecutive Big Eight title Kansas lost scoring chance early when a penalty nullified a Jay-hawk play that went to the Oklahoma seven The Sooners rolled up a total of 507 yards rushing and passing They scored in the second quarter on a one-yard plunge by Jackie Holt snd a short pass play from quarterbark Bobbie Boyd to Jerry Tillery From that point it was pretty much a matter of how big a score Oklahoma wanted to make it yrmra DUKE SCORES brisk attack quickly retaliated in the first period for a touchdown in a 60-yard strike in ten plays The score came on Brodhead's rlean flip to Lee from the four-yard line The Blue Devils moved ahead 7-6 on Wray Carlton's extra point boot the way the first half ended although Notre Dame had a 30-yard run from Bob Scarpitto to Duke's 46 and a 52-yard run nullified by Irish dipping by Bob White to 25 Mack carried the ball 17 times for 106 yards and a 61 average for Notre Dame Another Irish sophomore back Bob Scarpitto hauled 12 times for 77 yards and a 64 average Duke's top ball carrier was busy George Dutrow who carried 14 times for 76 yards and a 53 average Duke 7 I Notre Dame I I I Stickles 8 pass from Williams (pass if missed Tommy Wells a sophomore kicking specialist calmly booted the tying point In the final seconds of the game Wells tried a field goal from the Auburn 39 but it was short and off line as the final whistle blew But even a tie with the titantic Tigers was hailed as a moral victory for Tech hy the capacity crowd of 44726 and the Yellow -Jacket fans went wild Until Tech quarterback Fred Brasclton intercepted an Auburn -pass and returned it 16 yards to the 36 Tech had never -seriously threatened The Jackets I were held to a lone first down in the first half Two Braselton passes to Frank Nix and Jerome Green took the ball to the Auburn 11 Then Brasel-' ton took aim at Jack Rudolph and the Tech end made a falling ratch -at the one after Auburn's Tommy I-orino tipped the ball into the sixth-ranked Middies peore a touchdown late in the same period and fall in their bid for two extra points and then on the verge of being badly smudged Navy launched a desperation passing attack with Jim Maxfield doing the throwing It was checked in the last 40 seconds as -Tommy Mason intercepted a pass on the Tulane goal Petitbon whose play thrilled a record crowd of 32169 was voted the ferocious and although quarterback Joe Tranchini of Navy completed ten of 19 tosses most of them were short gainers The one successful Navy offensive was the exception to Tnn-chini's failure to dick
