Carolina football' game It offers a different style of offense from most games you see nowadays In short a throwback to the type of bruising competition where one tries to run over the other Some have seen fit to describe it as a game where one team tries to ram the ball down the throat Douglas Clyde (Peahead) Walker the keen-witted coach who now scouts for the New York Giants remarked in a speech the other day: "There are two schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference who think Communistic to put the football in the air" Everyone who follows ACC fooball knew he was speaking of South Carolina and Duke A statistical check reveals Peahead hit the nail on the head Last season Duke averaged trying 11 passes a game and averaged completing five of them South Carolina passed less than nine times per game completed less than four of them and averaged only 344 yards through the air By contrast the Gamecocks rushed 537 times and Duke ran the ball 485 times i -I Unless one team gets the early jump on the other forcing it to throw I expect you to see another "butting duel" in Carolina Stadium come next Sat or day night However these "four-yards and a cloud of dust" battles have been sweet music to the ears of Gamecock rooters since South Carolina has won the last two and swept three of four games from1 Duke since Warren Glese arrived on the Columbia campus quite a record for the custodian of the Bound house and one all Gamecock followers are proud of No other school In or out of the ACC can match success against Duke over this period 'OUR DADDY DID IT: It was all smiles for the Bobby
