Number tor the highway department in its efforts to lend material assistance to ell those agencies organizations commercial and business interests and cities which have activity entered upon a program to promote tourism In South Carolina It whs obviously impractical to include on the map scenes of all the points of Interest in the state We have included only a few at widely scatter ed sections to fit into a statewide pattern of information released to the traveling public by state agencies including the state research planning and development board the state chamber of commerce and local chambers of commerce and similar organizations" The color photographs of scenes however while adding appreciably to the quality of the folder are nevertheless Incidental to the over all which is to provide a better and more readable road map Ten city maps showing arterial routes through the cities are Included These maps are of Columbia Greenville Anderson Florence Sumter Charleston Greenwood Orangeburg Spartanburg and Rock Hill The map shows recent route number additions and changes such as 378 41 34 and 200 New numbers were recently posted along these routes It measures 22 3-4 Inches by 29 1-2 inches and folds to 7 1-2 by 3 3-4 Inches for convenient mailing The Increased size provides larger printing of route numbers mileage data and names of cities and is therefore much easier on the eyes than the smaller maps heretofore issued The color photographs feature South Carolina agriculture and industry as well as points of scenic Interest to travelers issuing this map we have made progress in mapping in keeping with the advances made in highway maintenance and construction" Mr McMillan said "The pro-greaslva changes lh the map format and content were made by The 1952 map of the 22 from Great Fall to Winnsboro 99 extended from its pres-ent terminus on Route 97 at Beck-hamville to Route 21 at Great Falls 41 extended from its intersection with Route 57 at Fork tDillon county) to Route 17 near Charleston via Mullins Kingsbury Johnsonville Hemingway Andrews Jamestown and Huger The existing section of Route 41 and 175 between Fork and Centenary via Marlon was made Route
