If the party ii given by the owner what kind of party lends itself td'this type of celebration? Whatever it is please give me directions including invitations and refreshment Answer: A housewarming is given by the house owners Perhaps they write invitations on note paper but most often they write on their double visiting cards be at home Sat Eve Nov 11 at 9 (Or afternoon at 3 ck if the house is much pret-j tier by daylight) If you want to know how many to provide for add on a lower comer The only way in which a housewarming differs from any ordinary evening (or afternoon) at home is that the house must be on display from garret to cellar If there are any not-in-order rooms or closets you would better lock them securely since a door that merely shut is no bar at all to any one interested in a friend's new house- Apart from this inspection THINGS TO EAT CAROLINA BAKING COLUMBIA Few women past their teens are fortunate enough to retain a truly normal type of skin For one thing modem living ia too fact hectic It takes strong nerves to stand the strain of social activities coupled with household or business duties For another steam heated houses in winter exposure to sun in the summer take their toll Then there's the matter of diet: insufficient milk and butter and fuel foods often results in lack of oil in the skin Similarly excess sweets starches fatty foods mean skin oiliness Health Rules Healthful living ia reflected in the sparkle of the eyes the steadiness of oone's step the color in cheeks and above all in the clarity of one's skin That's why it paya-for beauty's to follow the health rules Un plenty -r- exercise But touched with magic for the beauty they bring The normal skin is easily recognized It is flawlessly not a sign of a blackhead or eruption It ia thin and transparent nothing of the heavy leathery look no trace of yellow ingt sallowness Clarity ia the word And the color good healthy color showing through No dryness or chapping but a smooth silky soft to the a dull duty hastily and casually performed while the heart was elsewhere In that barren decade it did not often appear to the American college woman that a college might be a place of pleasant the last in fact that life ever offers to moat for reading or writing or painting or tinkering with teat tubes No She panted up to the last possible moment with the intention of beating the secretary or registrar by a few points in the game of getting students back for the first cuss of a term As the gong sounded at tha end of that term she rushed away in a racing taxi with a chorus of 6-year-old whoops As for what happened between the first gong of the term and the last that waa up to the professor His duty was to entertain and to be smart about it The teacher who could not keep awake the students who had returned on the morning milk train after a week end at Cambridge or Hanover was an incompetent The duty was limited to the time clock sitting in her classroom seat with a critical attitude toward the entertainment offered and at last fulfilling the minimum for the degree which like the foreign labels on her suitcase would prove that she had been places and done things Alligator Useful Dmes-Union Jacksonville The next time you are tempted to shoot an alligator just because he happens to be an ugly looking reptile just remember that his hide is not worth over 82 and the old scaly looking guy with his backbone full of knots is worth to the state of Florida over $100 annually for the numerous turtles end garfiish he destroy! Turtles and garfish prey upon small bass warmouth bream speckled irch and other game fish that make orida the sportsmen's and fishermen's paradise of the nation Old Man Alligator slips and alipes around in the swamps and picks up hi board by gobbling down hundreds of snapping turtles garfish mudfish and frogs that are no asset to our lakes creeks and ponds He is not a vicious or dangerous creature Let him alone and he will let you alone He is a lazy snoozy old coot You can fish within ten feet of him and he will sink and rise ease his snout up and out of the water every now and then to see what you are doing but he won't bother you The only alligator that is dangerous is a female on her nest er with young ones nearby She will attack if aha thinks you want to rob her of her eggs or young That ia mother nature Coon Hunting Kansas City Star They are getting ready to hunt coons in many parts of Missouri The sport has changed somewhat since the days when almost any old farm dog knew something about the cunning coon if the animal waa within the range of acquaintance Coon hunting then was a rather haphazard process The favorite time was on moonlight nights preferably in frosty weather Timbered bottom lands were the favored scenes Miles on miles of tramping were expected wher the hunters set out Excitement began when the dogs found a trail It leached a climax when the animal was treed If the coon succeeded in concealing itself in the branches a good climber was sent up after it driving it out on the branches where sometimes it was brought down by a shot or shaken off and brought to the mercy ol the dogs The encounter with the pack was not necessarily hopeless The coon is a good fighter and a swift runner and if there is water in hia bailiwick he knows about it and when pursued snakes for it In the water he often is able to conceal the trail and thereby successfully elude the enemy There is nothing especially venturesome about coon minting but it if an exhilarating por tfor boy and man There ia something alluring about the autumn woods in the night when most animal life is at raid although it is the time for the coon tq forage There is something romantic about building fires ana making coffee for a midnight supper among the trees Perhaps something of the old romance may have escaped in the more scientific methods of coon hunting in recent years including 'the training of pedigreed dogs for the purpose But no doubt the quest the moonlight the bellow' ing of the pack still provide the old' time thrill ANSWERS By Frederic Baskin The resources 'of our free information bureau are at your service You are invited to call upon it as often a a you please It is being maintained solely to service you you What question can we answer for you? France has now dug blasted and tunneled into the vitals of her soil the heaviest fortifications on earth and see is the di comment of Gen A Weyi generalissimo of the French army when someone suggests rest in comfort New Era Education Alzada Comstock in Current History Now at last it can be told that some of the trials of the colleges in the years of our neatest prosperity were almost past bearing In tha 1920a all was very very quiet on Parnassus For both boys and girls the colleges had been translated into finishing schools for the prosperous It waa socially as necessary to have been to college as to have seen Westminster abbey or the Arc de Triomphe But except for the by-products it Was in many cases there are always refreshments of whatever variety you choose From those of conventional aftenuxm tea or cocktails and hors to in a lata evening welsh rarebit and beer sandwiches and tea coffee or chocolate If on the other hand a surprise party is giyen to the new owners they must of coune know nothing about it Therefore usually an evening is chosen when it ia known that they are having company for dinner so that they will certainly be at borne The company must of course be in the secret and not go heme until with a good deal of talking and laughing and knocking the surprise company arrives in full force for this reason they always meet at a given place as near as possible to the house of the new owners so that they ihall all arrive at the same fime If it is impossible to select an evening when the new owners are having people for dinner (or supper) then an evening is chcsen when they are invited out The hostess in this case must keep then at her house until telephoned that the surprise party is in full swing In this cate the new owners must be encouraged to go home But whichever way the surprise is arranged supper is taken by the guests exactly as to a each one bringing the item allotted to her or to him (Copyright 1933 by Emily Post) Vote in Senate on Liquor Issue Washington Nov A striking consistency in dry strength in the senate from 1913 to 1932 is showed by votes there on prohibition There is also disclosed that sentiment this year was almost exactly reversed being roughly three to one against instead of for liquor control The Webb-Kenyon law protecting dry states set the example in 1911 It was adopted by the senate S3 to 21 Curiously the 18th amendment and the Volsteady law were approved in 1917 and 1919 respectively by the exactly similar votes 65 to 20 This same margin of strength prevailed through most of the prohibition period The Jones enforcement law was approved in 1929 by 65 to 18 and beer beers were rejected in 1932 by 60 to 23 and 61 to 24 Suddenly however in 1932 the sentiment switched and repeal was voted 63 to 23 Of the 20 senators who voted against the emendment in 1917 only Senator Lewis (Democrat) of Illinois is now in tile senate He was out for many years between Lewis also voted for the amendment repealing the 18th amendment Of the 65 senators who supported the 18th amendment in 1917 16 are left But only four of them voted against repeal They were: Borah (Republican) of Idaho Gore (Democrat) of Oklahoma Norris (Republican) of Nebraska and Sheppard (Democrat) of Texas The 12 senators who voted for the 18th amendment originally and for the repeal resolution this year were: Ashurst of Arizona Fletcher of Florida (Democrats) and Johnson of California (Republican) Kendrick of Wyoming King of North Dakota Mc-Kellar of Tennessee (Democrats) Mc-Nanr (Repblican) of Oregon
