With "BnT Boineau and Rhame leading tha way they marched to victory The first touchdown was followed by another drive1 led by the same talented young men and so dose were they to the goal when tha quarter changed that tha opening play in the next period netted the second marker For both of these Boineau kicked goal A third followed in rather short order Laval was pouring substitutes into tha fray rather indiscriminately apparently trotting them in in Hocks (if flocks is a good description of groups of Birds) When tha fourth touchdown was made hardly any of tho original starters were still in tho gam Tho half dosed with tho count 28 to 0 Carolina had made 15 first downs Erskine 6 (except one awarded on penalty) The fact that the result was apparently settled snapped the tension that had been evident when Erskine threatened and resisted so well in tho opening minutes of play Tho crowd still ready to thrill over a bit of brilliance settled back to count tho score to sea just how onesided the affair would be And eo at the halt it was largely matter it seemed of how many touchdowns tha Birds would score Unquestionably tha Gamecocks looked awfully good in that first half and unless we are mistaken they will look good in many more games this season Another Story But in the second half the Birds were dead on their feet The original lineup Avent back supposedly for a abort stay But where Laval had substituted promiscuously in the first hs found substitutions necessary in the latter half to bolster points that seemed weak The crowd thought that it was only a momentary flash that Erskine had jumped up but would soon jump down But it was early seen that Erskine which was listless In most of the first half was very milch on the alert now and that Carolina was as dead on its feet in thie half as Erskine had been They had switched! Carolina was able to withstand the rejuvenated Seceeders for tho time but such fine work wee not to go unrewarded When the third quarter ended the ball was within striking distance and on tho first play of the next period it was carried cross for touchdown Ths point was made most sensationally when Graham Reid ran pretty well all over tho lot before getting an outlet for his pass But when he shot he -shot a bull's eye and Tinker was waiting over tho line to do the receiving The scoring made the Seceders more furious and from then until tha end they fought and fought and twice came deathly near to other touchdowns As the game dosed Capt Julian Beall whose fine work pretty well saved the day for Carolina as far as additional Erskine scoring was concerned caught a flip almost on the goal line snatching it from in front of an A who was all set to make a tally Beall halted at least 12 points for his team in that last hectic quarter Gamerarks Good Five thousand fans gathered for the
